Aldridge's Camp Discuss Trade Possibilities

On the other hand, maybe they'd not have lucked into the pick that got them Derrick Rose because LMA would help them finish with a better record?
Hahahaha! Good one, Denny!

Well lets get out of our ten year rebuilding mode first.
Ten year rebuilding mode? That's absurd. We made a plan that was an excellent plan, a plan that failed only because of the catastrophic failure of four knees. We tried to salvage the plan by bringing in vets, and that failed because hose supposedly professional athletes didn't have the character and integrity we thought they did, and they quit. We drafted with an eye to two or three years in the future, and Lilliard threw a wrench into that by being a stud right out of the gate. Now we go into the season, see what we have, see if we can make a move or two to make us a contender, and if not, then start to look at the possibility of starting to rebuild.

Okay, how about this:

TRADE 1:
We send Aldridge and Freeland to Chicago
We get Charlotte's pick and the rights to Mirotic from Chicago, and the expiring contracts of Stuckey and Villenueva from Detroit
Detroit gets Boozer (hey, they were ready to take on Rudy Gay and he's much less efficient than Boozer)

TRADE 2:
Some version of trade 1 where Boozer goes to Dallas instead, because that's the only other team I can think of who might want him.

Detroit gets Boozer
I don't see why DET would want Boozer on a 2-year deal when they're giving up expiring contracts - they have their big-men already. Unless you can get them a stretch-4, I don't see them having any interest in bringing in more bigs. They need guards.

Agreed that it's not ideal, but they've been offering round their expiring deals for players like Rudy Gay, so they've shown a willingness to take on bloated salary for those guys. And if you think of Monroe and Drummond as Cs, and Josh Smith as your 3, then there's room for Boozer.

Personally I don't see why Chicago even considers trades. Rose is finally back and that team had the best record in the league one year. Should they try it out and see if Rose can be the Rose of old?

Detroit gets deng,
Chicago gets aldridge
Portland gets stuckey, Villanueva, Monroe

Adjust as needed. Hopefully we send Freeland out and get picks/mirotic

Well since there was a rumor that Golden State wanted Aldridge and some say they'd be willing to trade Lee and Thompson; maybe we could pry Drummond from the pistons?

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mmv2c4j

Portland trades: Aldridge and Matthews
Portland receives: Detroit first rounder, Klay Thompson and Drummond

Detroit trades: Drummond and a first rounder (protected top 3)
Pistons receive: Lee, Matthews and a couple 2nd rounders

Golden State trades: Lee, Thompson and a couple 2nd rounders
Golden State receives: Aldridge

Portland would save 10 mil in contract returned because Detroit absorbed most the contracts.

Olshey on LaMarcus Rumors...

Where do LaMarcus Aldridge trade rumors come from?

"I think it comes from all you [media] -- everybody fighting to be first with inaccurate information. I can tell you, LaMarcus Aldridge, you guys have known him longer than I have. And if he had asked to be traded, he would have told people that he asked to be traded. He never asked to be traded.

"The fact that I had breakfast in a hotel lobby with [Arn Tellem], one of my oldest and best friends who I worked with for seven years, who also represents Robin Lopez and Dorell Wright, along with LaMarcus Aldridge, probably doesn't lead to the fact that we're trying to trade LaMarcus Aldridge.

"But, you know, like I said, it's part of the business. LaMarcus understands it. He ignores it. If [Aldridge requesting a trade] was the case, we'd be dealing with it. It's not. He's happy.

"I think last year was a tough year for everybody. Portland is not a market that accepts losing. We'd tried not to rebuild but we always tried to be somewhat judicious in terms of how much future flexibility we gave away. To be honest with you, that's the results of this offseason. Had we done more minor moves and put more assets in play, moved more draft picks, there wouldn't have been a [Thomas] Robinson or a Robin Lopez. If we had given long-term deals to guys we weren't totally sure on, there wouldn't have been a Mo Williams today.

"I think what LaMarcus sees now -- like what you just brought up -- there is a plan. And we're executing the plan and we're going to stay disciplined and stay diligent about getting there as quickly as possible without jeopardizing the long-term health of the franchise.

"One thing we have to remember: LaMarcus is only 27. He's been here a long time but he's a young player in our league, in terms of how long his career is going to be. It will all work out really well in the end as long as we all stay on the same path."

Music to my ears

They really need to lock up Neil for many years to come. The dude is squared away. I doubt we'll find another GM on his level for a long time.

It is amazing how we went from having no GM at all to having one of the best. Who made the call on hiring him?

If we can manage to resign Aldridge and keep this team together; we will be in really good shape. And I agree with everyone above. Neil needs to stick with this team for a long while!

Neil is a straight shooter and I suspect players really respect him. Well most players.

No Joke! Allen needs to lock him down, and make him happy!

I don't care what anybody says. That's f-ing funny right there.

I suspect the "f" is short for forward, as in the article title: "Portland Trail Blazers GM Neil Olshey addresses trade rumors surrounding All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge."

But still, it's funny as shit the way the URL parsed it.

I think there was legitimacy to some of the rumors. I think LMA was probably very frustrated after the season and I suspect he might have even told Olshey he wouldn't mind being traded. Was it a demand? Probably not. I think we've had such a good offseason that Aldridge is happy and the issue went away. With that said, I think it could arise again if the team were to do poorly and miss the playoffs.

It would be an utter travesty if we miss the playoffs. There would be no possible way to think this team will not make the playoffs. If they don't, then stotts must be fired!

With that said, Aldridge will be happy if we make it to the next round. We could make the playoffs and if we don't make it to the second round; it may sway him to want out. But... Maybe we make noise and add another key piece the next season to take us over the top. Well at least getting us to contention.
