So you're saying teams wanted to fuck themselves?

They were willing to say, "Hey, we have NO shot at Dame, but we could get this generational point guard that would "supposedly" be #1 in any other draft, but we're just going to make a shit offer and see what happens?"

The logic in this place is crazy.

I assure you, if the Spurs made it known they didn't want Wemby, teams wouldn't be "lowballing" them. There would be a nuclear arms race to see who could get that pick from them.

There's a reason why picks that high rarely get traded. It's almost never wise to trade those picks because the ceiling is so much higher. There aren't many players I would trade Scoot for. It's not about intentional low-balling, it's that there are very few trades that you'd be getting equal value for.

No point even worrying about it. He wasn't there when we drafted.

100%. I keep seeing people bring him up. He wasn't a choice for us. Get over it. Why not post Wemby highlights as well.

We might have been able to trade up from 3 to 2 though. Before the draft I think the consensus was he would have been the perfect need.

Not to mention CHA lost to DET. That is the definition of empty stats.

Go back and read/listen to a majority of draft analysts.

Or you can go back through my post history where I linked to multiple podcasts, articles, etc.

They thought Amen had a higher ceiling while Scoot had a lower ceiling but was (much) more likely to obtain that "ceiling".
I read and watched all sorts of draft stuff last off season too. They thought Scoot was the clear pick at #3 and most thought #2.

With the young age of most of this class I think it's going to be at least a couple years before we really know whats what. My own take was that after Wemby one could make a legit argument for a number of guys 2-6, though most of those guys were going to take some time. Of those guys, Miller was the most plug and play/NBA ready. For Amen and/or Scoot to reach their ceilings, it's going to take some time as they need to improve the mechanics of their shot. As a hoops fan, I like watching talented young players tinkering and figuring it out.

like 99% of the reports were Scoot would be number two but isn’t a need for CHA.

These are traceable facts. No one was considering Amen a #2 pick other than a few in this forum who mentioned they would potentially prefer him. I believe @illmatic99 was one who would have preferred him. But find a national reporter who said Amen was a two pick.
It will be a long time searching.

definitely NOT me. I was not an Amen fan at all. I thought Scoot was far and away the best prospect at #2.

my apologies. I thought it was you. Someone here was hoping we would draft one of the twins though.
I don’t care enough to go back and search though. The sentiment that he was considered a two is laughable to me.

Way to call me out, bro.

Still, I'll hold to that opinion.

possibly more valid than when you voted though.
I’m rooting for scoot but I can’t deny I don’t have my concerns he will never meet the expectations based on the reports of his game.
My other concern is size. It’s a tall guards league.
I’m still in his camp for now though.

When that poll a few posts above came out has context. I was for Miller over Scoot for the most part, especially with Dame staying. But, when Dame demanded his trade to Miami I certainly switched to wanting Scoot. I was not in the Amen camp or anyone else for that matter. I thought Miller was gonna be good from the get go as quickly as he got used to the speed of the game. He was clearly the best shooter and had height. I hoped Scoot would be ready from the start but prepared for learning pains.

My post had literally nothing to do with where people were supposed to be drafted. It was about the ceiling of the player.

Kinda like Shaedon was generally considered to have the highest or second highest ceiling in his draft.

I don’t think any national person advocated for Amen at #2 and frankly that would be a tough sell with Brandon Miller on the board.

Plenty of people nationally said he had the highest ceiling outside of Wemby.

That doesn’t make you the #2 pick though (as the same thing happened with Shaedon).

I definitely would have preferred Amen over Scoot.

Miller wasn’t an option.

So at #3 I would’ve taken Amen. At 2 I would’ve taken Miller.

It’s no secret I didn’t want Scoot.

My signature is, “DON’T DRAFT SCOOT” after all.

Fair enough. I wanted us to make moves to get up to #2 to get Miller but that was based on trying to keep Dame. I think Dame would have left no matter what unless we traded the pick for an all star caliber player
