So you're saying teams wanted to fuck themselves?
They were willing to say, "Hey, we have NO shot at Dame, but we could get this generational point guard that would "supposedly" be #1 in any other draft, but we're just going to make a shit offer and see what happens?"
The logic in this place is crazy.
I assure you, if the Spurs made it known they didn't want Wemby, teams wouldn't be "lowballing" them. There would be a nuclear arms race to see who could get that pick from them.
There's a reason why picks that high rarely get traded. It's almost never wise to trade those picks because the ceiling is so much higher. There aren't many players I would trade Scoot for. It's not about intentional low-balling, it's that there are very few trades that you'd be getting equal value for.
