As of today he has no workouts scheduled.

This fuels the speculation that he has a promise. This was first brought up when he skipped the combine entirely.

I'd guess it's because he anticipated having terrible combine numbers.

Something about Sabonis that intrigues me. Many fall under having "game" but his ammo is the intellect that comes with being the Son of a Hall of Fame Father. If we can somehow make a deal with a late Lotto team to grab Him I'd be happy! What would it take?

Would be a coup if we could pull it off but I don't think that's the way he thinks. I don't think Olshey has a list of "must have" players. He tries to make the get the best players possible out of who's vailable for a reasonable price. You make Olshey the groundskeeper of a Railway Reclamation Yard and I guarantee within a week he'd have the best starting five from a group of hobos.

I've read that Sabas is project to go anywhere from Top 10 all the way down into the early 20s. Is it really that up in the air? Supposing he's there at #13 (PHX) or #16 (BOS), would Ed Davis be enough to get one of those picks? Ed Davis + Alexander? Alexander + Vonleh?

I think he is more likely to do that when he has a good pick available. When he has nothing, like this year, I think he targets a couple players. I think he has even said that is what he is doing this year. and, myself, I don't think he is targeting Sabonis. I don't think he is targeting anyone who might go before #25 or so.

Vonleh+CLE pick is as far as I'd go, I'm not trading Davis for an unproven rookie.

There's enough pedigree in the Sabas name that I'm comfortable instantly giving him Ed's back-up position - I think that's his floor. (Of course I've never seen the kid play - I just like his dad THAT much!)

I would take a flyer on Sabonis for sure. I agree he is a smart player. But he did play in a weak conference. (Actually most conferences in college are weak. ) But I would not give up Vonleh and a #1.

Weaknesses from DraftExpress

"Defensively, Sabonis has a lot of room to grow. Not much of a shot blocker or rim protector in general, his lack of elite quickness and length limits him on this end. He is by no means lead-footed, but has struggled to stay in front of quicker forwards at times over the last two years. He does a decent job defending the post, positioning himself fairly well, but struggles to stay straight up defending shots inside, frequently committing unnecessary fouls as a result of that or when his emotions get the best of him. Not battling quite as hard on this end until shots go up as he does the rest of the game, it will be interesting to see what kind of defensive player Sabonis can be at the next level."

Poor defensive big? He'll fit right in

Unless Neil makes a huge trade this team is headed for the lotto.

We're not bad enough to land Simmons but we'll pick right around where Sabonis ought to be -- mid to late lotto. He could rise into the top-7ish if he keeps this up.

The numbers:

20.5 PPG | 10.5 RPG | 83 FG% | 46.8 PER | 3 games

He obviously wont keep these numbers up but he came back stronger and bigger -- 245 lbs.

14/15 season PER40: 18 PPG | 13 RPG | 68 TS% | 24.7 PER

He lacks length, severely actually, but he has a feel that you can't teach and a Joakim-like motor. I'm in the minority here on S2 - I really like Vonleh's upside but Sabonis is a better prospect.

How the hell do you even come up with some of these opinions?

Please expand on why you think this? I think its ludicrous that if we don't make a HUGE TRADE, we are in the lotto.

I see no logic in this whatsoever.

Please explain... otherwise this is just another wasted thread...

That post was from November 25th when the blazers record was 6 wins 10 losses.

Ahhh okay. So sometimesthings happen here and im trying to figure it out. When a thread doesnt have any new activity for a lengthy duration and then someone posts, it shows back up at the top for me, but it starts all over from the first post when I open it, instead of loading up to the most recent read post, like the other threads do.
I think I have made this mistake a few times now.
Sorry Fez. I understand now.

I've made that mistake too

I don't know, my big concern is that Sabonis turns into Joel Freeland 2.0 for us.

I know this is going to go over like a lead balloon, but I really don't see much difference between Freeland and Davis - except for the fact that Freeland could hit a mid-range shot!

Trading Vonleh for Sabonis would be a terrible idea. Vonleh is already a solid defender who will only round out his game in due time.
I'm not high on Vonleh, but I also don't want to trade him - I'd definitely prefer to trade Davis/Alexander. Trading Vonleh at this point would be selling low.

get Domantas on the team, have Sabas as the new assistant coach, Kaman second assistant.

two words....injury prone

Freeland had way more girth and was able to set very solid picks. I don't know if we have had a better pick setter in the last decade. We know LMa sucked at it....

Rebounding always translates and Sabonis was elite in this category:

11.8 rpg | 14.8 per36 | 28.2 drb% | 20.7 trb%

Not as good as Kenneth Faried, the NCAA rebounding leader since 1993, but he's in the same ballpark.

The obvious question mark is where does he play - can he check PFs?

Not feeling the Domantis pick . .
He's not long enough, or athletic enough, to be top tier at the next level.

We already have a short (length) player who goes at 100%, and rebounds decently, in Plumlee.

but just like what was said about GPII, his dad is a hall of famer, when you have that coaching you up it will make a difference. Sabas sure as shit wasn't the most athletic dude when he finally came over here but boy did he make it work. things are gunna start coming together for him as he gets a little older and puts on some nba weight.

As of today he has yet to even interview with a team.

Some team is keeping him and his stock under wraps.
