Bridges is fairly young at 26 but the Nets are far more likely to be interested in Ant + #3 and maybe throw in NYK's pick? I think I do that for Bridges. Simons is 3 years younger than Bridges who will be 27 and in his prime going into the fall. Simons is still peaking and with unlimited shots could be unreal. He also is a player who is amazing to watch (especially when hot) who could get butts in seats WITHOUT winning which is what you want if you're a rebuilding Nets. Add in the #3 (Miller, Scoot or Thompson) and the Knicks pick and you have a young core to work around. The big issues for the Nets is offloading Simmons. I think they might be able to get a 1st out of him if they are lucky and find the right suitor. Likely in exchange for a salary dump attached to the pick.

The Nets with 4 first round picks (two from Blazers, their ownm and one for Simmons) and Simons to build around could get a decent team in about 3 years. If they keep Bridges they will get poor picks and be mired in stagnation especially if Simmons shows up for significant parts of the Regular season and they can't offload him.

I think we should target Bridges for our SF, but if not I think Brown is a decent choice. I'm not super interested in Siakam to be honest but he's not the worst idea I just would be far less interested in trading the #3 for him, plus Ujiri is one of the greediest GM's short of only Daryl Morey for having that "I MUST bend the other guy over the barrel or there is no trade" attitude. I'm not keen on dealing with him for that reason.

Bridges is my favorite out of all them as well but the Nets don't control their own picks so it doesn't matter if they lose. That will only benefit Houston.

If the Nets are acquiring the #3 pick for Bridges IMO they are rebuilding - so they would be fine holding onto Simmons contract next year, and then its an expiring. They'd probably also try to trade away Claxton/Finney Smith/Oneal for picks as well.

If they want to trade Simmons contract for more production from that salary spot then they should keep Bridges - such as trying to acquire a Lillard type star and ship out many of their future picks. They are a bit like Portland in that they have two timelines and could go young and rebuild or go for vets and try to win now this offseason. Not having their own future lotto picks makes it more likely they try to win and keep Bridges IMO.

An article about Browns defense just one playoff series ago against the 6ers

https://sports.yahoo.com/jaylen-browns-defense-changed-celtics-151005865.html

"Brown routinely picks up Harden in the backcourt and makes him work simply to get over the center stripe. The results? Harden has been limited to one point on 0-for-7 shooting with three turnovers when Brown is the primary defender over the past two games. Harden looked disengaged at times on Friday but Brown helped deliver him to that point. Harden finished 3-of-14 shooting with five turnovers in Game 3. Brown has preserved much of his energy for the defensive end and steadied the Celtics after the team fumbled away a chance to win Game 1 despite Harden’s outburst.

"Man, honestly, it started with Jaylen,” said Malcolm Brogdon. "Jaylen’s picked up Harden, made it difficult on him the last two games and it's really changed the whole series."

Might be a very profitable bet to put money on Portland at 5/1. Lots of reporting that Brown is close with Dame and many of the same chatter as when we got Grant.

Hawks/Bucks/Bulls/Knicks shouldn't have such high odds being in the East - teams with All-NBA players are much more likely to trade across conference.

Warriors don't have the picks, young talent, or salaries to match in a trade.

If Brown isn't traded bet is cancelled and you get your money back.

I don't see Boston dealing Brown unless he demands out. Then they will get the best player possible in return.

They aren't trading Brown for a pick, IMO.

ATL might be the favorite but if Brown says he will not re-sign with them then that becomes mute and now it's Dame's time to recruit him some more to try and seal the deal.

Most of the new aspects of the CBA such as the second apron restrictions take effect in July 2024.

are you sure the "most" is true? All I've read is that teams that are over the 2nd apron right now, and scheduled to be over next season, may be granted an extra year to get under since the new CBA was ratified after this season's trade deadline. But I may have missed some articles

I went and bet on Brown but it only has a $25 limit... so I get $125 profit if he ends up a Blazer. Would put more on this if there was a higher limit though. Betonline is only site I have money on.

5:1?...so is that a 125 profit or 100?

Well the "most" word I used is vague. There are many aspects of the CBA that will be in effect immediately. I have heard from many sources and podcasts all the 2nd apron restrictions start in July 2024. That is why its expected we will see heightened trade activity over the next year that is the most in NBA history. I don't think we know anything for certain until they post it the actual agreement such as with the 2011 and 2017 CBA. https://nbpa.com/cba

Brown to me is the best fit with Grant and Dame you could hope for...Grant starting with Thybulle off the bench gives you some great point of attack defense.

I never understand why so many fans and posters say this. It's like saying I need cash for gas next month so I'd rather have $100 than the $20k of Apple stock your offering..... Well why not just get the stock today then sell it tomorrow?

Picks are the "cash" of the NBA - GM's can keep it, borrow against it, sell it, or immediately in the same trade flip it to a 3rd team for something else they want.

I still don’t see why brown would turn down a super max to go to Portland.
He has a toxic relationship with Boston fans...he's still going to get 200+ million so money is not the biggest draw the guy has....he can choose to be in a better culture for his own mental health.

one thing I read a little earlier was than the new luxury tax line was going to initially jump at a higher rate than the cap. With a jump of the cap from 123M to 134M, the tax was going to jump from 150M to around 162M. So now it may be 165M. meaning the first apron would be 171-172M and the 2nd apron around 183M

the Warriors and Clippers are the only two teams above that threshold

LOL at the Warriors, and at Steve Ballmer...but I can see why there's a 1 year grace period

He's also an Aaron Goodwin client, so he shares the same representation as Dame.

After the GP2 fiasco and the Dame super duper max, Goodwin owes us a favor.

I swear to god this never actually happens.

Several times over the years I have heard something about us doing a favor for an agent, and I have yet to really see those favors returned.

Even if a "favor" is returned I'm not sure we would ever hear of it. Maybe Ant and Nurk agreed to sit out games to help us get the Sharpe pick because we were on great terms with their agents. Maybe when Kanter and Seth Curry signed here it was party because we had a good dialog with their agents. Maybe Jerami Grant forcing his way here last summer so we only had to give up one mediocre pick, and then agreeing to sit out the tanking for the #3 pick this last season, was because we had very good relationship with his agent.

Maybe none of that matters and we would've had the same results regardless of agent relationships or favors. I don't think we'll ever know how much this has helped or doesn't help.

They can get a better return for Brown than they can get for a pick. They are in win now mode. They don't want cash. They want production on the court right now for another run at a championship right now.

Nothing else makes sense to me.

They were talking about his D today on one of the stations. They pointed out that a couple of years ago he was one
of the best perimeter defenders in the league and that he slipped a bit once his offense got better.

The bottom IMO is if he once was an elite defender then he has the ability to be great at it again.

Listening to Bill Simmons podcast had me realize something, he was complaining how the Celtics have only won 1 title in the last 15 years

So if Brown stays in Boston, and wins 2-3 titles he'd be one piece of the 4th best group of Celtics? If they win 1 title it'll probably be a massive irrelevant historic disappointment.

Compare that to Portland, if he teams up with Dame and their core wins a single title he'd be immortalized for the next century.

I think Bill did a bit on Portland once, saying how since Portland has 1 of the major 4 teams, that 1 title feels like 4.

So if Damian were to be part of a title team in Portland, even if he's an auxiliary player at that point (i.e., Sharpe just goes absolutely bonkers and becomes everything we hope he can x100), he'll be remembered as the greatest Oregonian ever.

Gonna be hard to take the crown from Bridgette Wilson.

I could see Raptors, Celtics and Nets all jockeying for that #3/Ant package. Do the Nets really need 3 firsts? Have them kick back their #22 pick instead.

Remember that it was likely filler + 4 late Memphis firsts that Marks declined, not an up-and-coming guard and a #3 pick.

If the team wins a title, it'll be a no brainer.

It would be interesting to list the top like 50 or 100 Oregonians (either native or lived here/made their name here).

Come on dude…. Billy Madison’s girl? She was so hot. Dame can’t top that.
