Interesting comp. Like Chris Paul, Scoot is great with his midrange shot. Which is why I have hope he'll get an at least adequate 3 point shot in the near future.
CP3 also came into the league without a 3 point shot at 20, shooting below .300 his rookie year. Watching Scoot's passing highlights really reminded me of young Chris Paul.

Yeah.... and he plays off the ball.

I'm torn. I think pairing him with Shaedon could be a lethal combo down the road.

I really haven't seen anyone that to me is a sure-thing to take at 3.

As recently as last night I stated the Miller is my guy. I am vacillating again. I'll probably change my mind a million more times, honestly.

Miller's shot bothers me... but I guess guys have had successful careers with stranger form.

He also doesn't seem as fluid as I would like for an athletic wing.

I like Amen's athleticism and his passing.... but the guy has a HORRIBLE shot. He makes Scoot look like Curry.

I'm not torn at all. I actually think him and Dame can play together as well. And as Dame gets older, he'll need to play less.

Chris Paul shot 47% on three's during 2 years at Wake Forest; Scoop shot 27% in g-league. CP3 shot 47.2% on FG's; Scoop shot 42.9%. CP3 shot 84% on FT's; Scoop shot 76%. Pretty clearly CP3 was a much better shooter before entering the NBA. And he established that over 63 games. Scoop has some sample size issues since it was only 19 games in G-league, but he didn't really shoot well from anywhere. He had a .537 TS%, and that's below average, and this came against the extremely porous G-League defense

Scoop, IMO, is nothing like CP3. More like Westbrook at UCLA, although Westbrook was a better shooter (except on FT's). Westbrook had a lower assist/turnover ratio though. Westbrook was the more wow!-worthy athlete though

I've now watched about 30-35 minutes of video on Scoop that isn't highlight-reel hype. At times I do think he can be a pretty good (probably not great) player. Other times I have my doubts. His floor may be solid and his ceiling may be all-star. But I'm sure not convinced of either. High-reward/high-risk with risk maybe being a little higher

I haven't been that impressed with Miller though

Yeah. At first I totally thought that CP3 wasn't a good 3 point shooter, but then I went and looked at his college stats. He was a VERY good college three point shooter.

One thing that's confusing me though.... this breakdown has Scoot shooting 34% from three and I'm not seeing that. Where is he getting his stats?

And this youtuber is a good analyst. I watched him a lot last summer before the draft. I like his analysis. So I'm curious where he's getting that number. I saw someone else say that Scoot shot over 30%, but his official GLeague profile has him shooting 27.5% so I don't see how that could be inaccurate. https://gleague.nba.com/player/1630703

I saw that a while back too. I'm assuming it's just a misprint or the guy had bad data. The only possibility other than mistake I can think of is that since he's comparing Scoop to college prospects there was an adjustment for the difference between the distance of the NCAA three point line and the NBA three point line. I would not trust any formula for that

like I said....Scoop might end up as good as some of the hype suggests, although I'm a little skeptical. But I do think his shooting could be a big issue. One other thing is I sure haven't seen any real evidence that he's going to be a good defender. he might but I haven't seen it in the videos yet

Yeah, the defense didn't seem as good as some people like to say.

But seriously though, at least Scoot's shot looked decent. Amen's shot looked horrible.

I watched some Scoot highlights for the first time last night. My impression is... he's definitely going to the Hornets at #2. WOW !!

Can't just watch his highlights. He has some warts.
but we're talking about Charlotte, Scoot would instantly become their best player. They literally have no excitement on that squad. Increasing Fun factor on tank teams is important.

those cats in Charlotte have had to root for Oubre Jr. to have big nights. BORING. They need to spice things up.

Watch this video.
You are forgetting that Charlotte has LaMelo ball. If he’s not excitement, I don’t know what is. He’s off-the-charts as a passer.
Word is they want to build around him. He was the 3rd pick in the 2020 draft so there is a certain amount of investment in looking for a good fit for LaMelo for the next 7-8 years.
Is Scoot the best fit? If Charlotte determines Scoot and Miller are pretty similar in potential for the Hornets?
LaMelo is a fantastic passer. Do you want to combine LaMelo with another fantastic passer who is (right now) not a good outside shooter, or with a 6’8” forward who can shoot the shit out of the ball? Miller was near 50% on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers.
There are lots of teams that are “win now = make the playoffs” like Sacramento was last season. Look at who Sacramento drafted. Keegan Murray. He worked out well for them, even if he’s not a player you build around.

You make a valid point. I can see LaMelo and Scoot possibly working together but LaMelo really needs to be surrounded by shooters because he plays best with the ball in his hands ...as does Scoot. Again they can play well together but will each of them play their best next to one another? Miller will have to screw up that visit for them not to take him..... unless Scoot just blows them out of the water with his.

"Scoot would instantly become their best player". I just don't see it, with LaMelo still on the team. LaMelo is looking like the real deal. His only problem is injuries, and Steph Curry had a few early in his too. Scoot will bring excitement like Billy Ray Bates did in Portland, but i don't see his game being close to as polished as LaMelo's is.

LaMelo broke his ankle, the Hornets need to take it easy with him next season. More PT for Scoot !!

I just don't see it. They've also got a very good Terry Rozier at 2 guard. I think they take Miller , or trade the pick. I will say if a lot of teams value Scoot & Miller as high as some in here do, the Hornets and Blazers should be able to get a haul in return for it. Like how much NFL teams have to spend to move into the top 3 for a QB.

Terry Rozier should never be the reason not to draft Scoot. You trippin dude

They already have an excellent PG. Rozier is a good shooter. They need impact at the wing and center positions. You see generational in Scoot, i see Billy Ray Bates.

Have you seen Rozier’s numbers? I wouldn’t consider his shooting to be “good”

“That is an interesting look into the personality of Scoot Henderson. Henderson can be someone cerebral, a student of the game through and through. He said that he’s studying Andre Miller, one of the smartest point guards ever.”

Elite athleticism and cerebral - rare combination

And he seems to be supremely confident, which is critical for a superstar. That's what separates Dame from a lot of players.

It's hard not to imagine Scoot and Sharpe running the break together.

Here is one of Scoot’s better games. It includes all shot attempts, fouls committed, turnovers as well as the usual points/assists/rebounds.

He’s a good passer. He’s gonna need to work on his shooting so he can blow by guys easier. I really don’t like his defense tho

2 years in the G and shoots 27% from three and low 40'sFG?

IF we trade Dame I’m starting to lean towards Amen, if he hits Thompson/Sharpe would be a massive backcourt, tons of size and athleticism.

I’d want a young big plus picks for Dame.
