All Things Whiteside

Monroe probably made the better decision for Monroe at the time.

There is one thing about this whole Whiteside thing that keeps coming into my head. Correct me if i am wrong but he was quoted as saying he is a business man and look what he has done. He has 2 max offers incoming from Dallas and the Blazers and i believe the Heat were hesitant to give him a max deal but now they might be more willing cause the idea of losing him is more real. He very well could be using both teams to force Miami to go max and if they don't he has 2 good options to fall back too. IF i am right you cannot be upset at him cause he is only doing what anyone in his position should do and that's to get what they feel they are worth.

While i am still hoping the Blazers can get Whiteside it would not shock me at all if all this is for nothing and he goes back to the Heat.

When its all about money, Texas >>>> Oregon
Meh. He can be a resident of texas even if he played in portland.

If the players were smart, they would have their residence in florida or texas. That way, if they play for the blazers, oregon can only tax games played inside the state of oregon.

Its not as big of a difference as you would suspect. Texas sales tax is 6.25% and cities can add up to 2% more.

Oregon is 9 to 9.9% income tax, which would again only be on the games played in oregon.

If the Heat cave and pay Whiteside max then Wade is going to finally leave. He isn't taking a big cut in pay again according to reports.

We all might not be agreeing about Whiteside atm but i think we can agree with this :
Let's all have a laugh at the Lakers who at the moment have been left out in the cold for Whiteside -- ROFL -- LOL
I like your attitude. Even if we do nothing, we have prevented the Lakers from doing anything.

Well so far Olshey is 0/2 when it comes to #1 targets so I'm hoping for the best but expecting nothing.
I kinda hope Dame and CJ will be there too.
The way Kobe ruined the meetings with Dwight Howard and Aldridge? Let's just keep the meeting small and professional.
Are you talking about Kanter from last season? Because I don't quite consider that as a miss by us, we reached a deal (max at that), but OKC chose to match it. Nothing we could have done. Is there someone else Im forgetting last year?

It's not just what he did and didn't finish, it's what he didn't do because he was too busy doing what he did do.

i saw a report the heat are trying to free up space by trading McRoberts so not sure Wade factors too much into him re-signing.

I imagine that if he signed here he'd still maintain a Florida residence (also no income tax) for the very reason you specified. However, if he were to play 41 games in Oregon, the state income tax difference is still a million bucks, which...well, is still a million bucks.

Last I ran the numbers, they have to do more than trade McRoberts to make it work and give Wade what he is asking for. They don't have full bird rights to go over the cap to sign Whiteside. Which means they have to have about 42 MIL minimum in cap space to sign both him and DWade. They are still short of that number even if they waive their rights to Deng, Green, Haslem, Joe Johnson, etc.

Basically to get it done they have to have only Bosh, Dragic, Winslow, Josh Ridcharson and Tyler Johnson left on their team before signing those two big guys that they want. Down to 5 players on the whole team before the signings! Crazy to think.

Just gotta push that no sales tax thing and hope he's a big spender.

True, in reality the difference is really only 39 games. Because if he was a maverick, he still would likely playing 2 games here.

But yeah. Id say we are set up for longevity to win more than dallas is.

Cant blame him though. Cuban would be a fantastic owner to play for.

slightly OT from your conversation, but...
I think they push Stotts ability to develop players.
Lillard's unselfishness.
youngest team in playoffs, and still made it to 2nd round.
Players his age, not old men (like in Dallas and Miami)

Why don't we take McBob and Wade off their hands so they can sign Whiteside? That'd shore up our bench. :ghoti:

So let's say we land Whiteside.

What else do we do? We'd have like 2 mil of space left.

Still feel like we'll need a good perimeter defender or 3 and D dudes if we can find someone for cheap (not for 2 mil obviously). Perhaps turn Noah and Plums into something useful?

Omri Casspi is a guy I've been looking at for a while now if Sac wants to let him go. Terrific leader, great 3pt shooter, decent defender who can play both the 3 and 4.

If we sign Whiteside, and assuming that Horford leaves Atlanta, I'm VERY curious what the Hawks would want for Millsap.

Yeah trade plums for a future 1st, or trade plums for a wing that makes a little more than him to a team looking to shave off a couple million and a 2nd rounder for our troubles.

Their pain/failures always make me happy/brings us together!:biglaugh::breakdance::eviljump::smiley-jumping:

We will trade Plumlee for a SF/PF I imagine. Would Charlotte consider letting MKG leave? He's injured anyway and he's on $13M a year which is doable if we don't resign Meyers.

Third time's a charm?

My gut feeling is that it's POR and MIA. Leaving MIA for DAL just doesn't make much sense.

Yeah we can give him just as much as Dallas can plus a better chance to win. Plus would he rather play with Mike conely, an aging Nowitzi, and a downhill maverick team or Lillard and the up and coming blazers

Or maybe we're just being played so he can get a max deal with Miami.

If you're Cuban.... what the fuck are you selling?

Dirk just turned 38.

Parsons is on the way out.

Wes was a bust.

The rest of the team that's actually under contract is horrible. So what is the selling point? We might get Conley?

Same thing they almost got DeAndre with...the promise of being a focal point on the offensive end. HW wants to get paid and he wants to have a bigger/better role. MIA has the location, DAL has the need, POR has the best mix of a chance to contend and be a more important part of the team. I like our chances when you look at the overall offering and the fact both Neil and Dame will be in that room

I don't think Dame is gonna be in the room. The final day of his summer camp is tomorrow.
