Should we match Brooklyn's offer sheet for Allen Crabbe?

I like Crabbe but between Turner and Crabbe...Turner all day long..he can finish in the paint and create his own midrange shot...will be the best alley oop passer on the team which we haven't really had since Dre

Different type of player. Crabbe is a straight up 3&D guy, and Turner is more of a versatile guy who can do anything.

Here's the thing. We cannot take the jump to a title contender in free agency, and most likely not draft for at least 3-4 years. The only way to make the jump is to make a trade. And to get value, you need assets, like Crabbe. We need to keep all of our assets, pretty convinced now.

Ding ding ding!

Problem with that analysis is IMO Crabbe at 18 mil per and a trade kicker is a CRAPPY asset

For a starting shooting guard, that's a reasonable contract. If fucking Bazemore is getting that kind of money, I think Crabbe is reasonable. There simply aren't that many 3&D shooting guards available.

It obviously isn't an easy decision because they haven't just come out and said they won't match.

People seem to be forgetting that Crabbe is only 24. The next time he hits free agency he'll be the same age as Turner at the start of this season. Ideally he'd be getting this type of offer after he comes off his second deal, but the Nets, as desperate as they are have accelerated the process.

Playing my own devil's advocate here though, perhaps this is Crabbe at his best, but just scale his numbers up with minutes and usage. Not likely imo, but possible. The good organizations are the ones that consistently inflate the value of their role players. Blazers have done that with Lopez, Matthews and to a lesser extent Batum. Spurs have been doing this for years. Boston recently did this with Turner. So in that sense, we are probably fine even if we don't match.

Let him walk and he can be the next Travis Outlaw. There's little to no trade value in that contract combined with his skills.

Parsons is clearly better, and paid like it too. What is your point?

Crabbe isn't being paid a MAX contract because he's not as good. But he's closer than you'd think. He makes just 2 less 3pt shots per 100 attempts, and scores 2.5 PPG less per 36 minutes.

Parsons also is a better defender, has a higher TS%, provides twice as many assists & 3 more rebounds. There is more to the game than having a pretty shot.

Parsons is also coming off two knee injuries.

And he's getting paid more for those reasons.

Crabbe is close enough that his contract is warranted.

He's also a primary part of the offense, and therefore more of a focus for the defense whereas Crabbe is a tertiary player that defenses will cheat off of in order to focus their attention on Dame/CJ.

Please cheat off the guy who shot almst 40% from 3 last year, that will just mean open 3's and tons of points for the offense.

Sorry, for those that say nay, but we are going to match the offer.
