Am I A Complete Dork For Liking This Song?

I'm 55. As I've aged I have realized that neither one party has all the answers. I have also realized that while I appreciate the conflict of views, at some point in time both sides need to work to reach acceptable compromises when they disagree. Beginning with the last year of the Bush Sr presidency it has been two parties at war with each other in a "we win, you lose" mentality. Until that stops, things will just continue to get worse with no abatement.

If you have the time, I highly recommend listening to Hardcore History (a podcast about... history) and their take on The Fall of the Roman Republic (and the transition into Empire). The effects of increased pandering, brutal political machinations, and money money money into the political system really rang some of my bells.

Best 13 hours I spent listening to one guy talk.

Just curious, what is your stance on the republican vow to refuse to increase taxes. That to me, seems like they are unwilling to compromise.

“I’m open to tax reform,” McConnell said. “We need to do it broadly. To sort of cherry-pick items in the context of this current negotiation with the White House strikes me as pretty challenging.”

McConnell said that ending tax preferences is a “big, complicated subject” and that targeting certain industries could hurt the economy. “We want to tackle deficit reduction in a way that doesn’t exacerbate unemployment,” he said.

Cantor’s apparent turnaround, however, is an indication that some Republicans are cracking open the door to addressing those loopholes if they’re accompanied by tax cuts elsewhere, such as an extension of the payroll tax holiday or changes to the alternative minimum tax.

But Senate Democrats said Wednesday that the door still isn’t open wide enough. They cast Cantor’s comments as evidence that they had put Republicans “on their heels” over taxes. But they criticized him for insisting that the closing of any loopholes be balanced by more tax cuts.

Let's just clarify. Republicans don't want to increase taxes, and they want to cut a lot of spending. Democrats want to increase taxes and cut spending. So clearly the democrats are to blame for not compromising by saying "Okay, let's do exactly what you want."

I think it's short sighted. I don't think raising taxes should be part of the answer because it fails to address the core problems, but I believe we need substantial tax reform and when that happens some people's taxes will go up and some will go down. But if raising taxes can be shown to be a proper (I know, a very subjective term) part of the solution, then it must be on the table.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, if you only really knew.

I took a break from claims to work for the feds assisting homeless vets and worked with the state employment department and the amount of federal money purely poured down the drain (let alone the fraud, waste & abuse), would leave you stunned. I'd conservatively estimate 60% at a bare minimum. Yes, we can right the budget with "changes" alone, but it would cut into too many sacred cows.

Thank you. =] I agree that it is not the end of all problems.

So you want to cut military spending. We agree.

Personally I would say this is the first time since Clinton that Democrats haven't stuck their heads in the ground and let the republicans throw all the mud.
