I'm 55. As I've aged I have realized that neither one party has all the answers. I have also realized that while I appreciate the conflict of views, at some point in time both sides need to work to reach acceptable compromises when they disagree. Beginning with the last year of the Bush Sr presidency it has been two parties at war with each other in a "we win, you lose" mentality. Until that stops, things will just continue to get worse with no abatement.

Just curious, what is your stance on the republican vow to refuse to increase taxes. That to me, seems like they are unwilling to compromise.

Let's just clarify. Republicans don't want to increase taxes, and they want to cut a lot of spending. Democrats want to increase taxes and cut spending. So clearly the democrats are to blame for not compromising by saying "Okay, let's do exactly what you want."
I think it's short sighted. I don't think raising taxes should be part of the answer because it fails to address the core problems, but I believe we need substantial tax reform and when that happens some people's taxes will go up and some will go down. But if raising taxes can be shown to be a proper (I know, a very subjective term) part of the solution, then it must be on the table.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, if you only really knew.
I took a break from claims to work for the feds assisting homeless vets and worked with the state employment department and the amount of federal money purely poured down the drain (let alone the fraud, waste & abuse), would leave you stunned. I'd conservatively estimate 60% at a bare minimum. Yes, we can right the budget with "changes" alone, but it would cut into too many sacred cows.
