OT Amazon delivery sucks

I've seen no evidence that there are specifically fewer young people willing to work. We have plenty of hard working young people at my shop and they started at the bottom just like I did.

Is there some data which leads you to believe this is not the case at most places?

Amazon is a shit job. I've known people who worked there and I sure as hell wouldn't work there.

just the look of the age of those I've seen posting videos of walking out of jobs. Is there any evidence showing its not?

I don't know about the work habits of youth these days. But I do know that old folks have been complaining about the laziness of younger generations for a long long time.

barfo

i was complaining about it at 22 in the construction/government field, having to work next to people doing as little as possible and getting paid the same as me.
It seems many people will work harder once they get a raise. I was brought up to work harder to get a raise.
Could this mentality be part of the problem why some cant move up the ladder to better jobs and positions to not have to work two jobs?

Yeah, you don't hear the young people complaining about their laziness, lazy bastards.

Income inequality continues to grow. This isn't the same as 40 years ago with people taking a job to get by or working two jobs. Long gone are the days someone made 40k in the late 80s working a manual labor job and could buy a brand new house in Gresham for 50k.

College, homes, groceries. All of it is substantially more expensive in comparison to what people can make nowadays.

Groceries are crazy expensive right now. It's insane.

There are many factors at play here.... but the predominate one is the policies of the Federal Reserve.

In 2008, the USPS and UPS each delivered about 3.5 billion packages in the US while FedEx delivered almost 2 billion, a total of almost 9 billion, or 30 packages/person. In 2020, the USPS delivered slightly more than 7 billion, UPS 5.5 billion, Amazon 4 billion and quickly rising, and FedEx about 3 billion, a total of 20 billion packages, or 61 packages/person, or roughly one/week.

Just a fun stat I came across this morning.

I was taught to do a $1.10 worth of work for a dollar's salary.

Union jobs are more important than ever.

Why would we assume something changed without any evidence to suggest a change has occurred?

Every generation complains about younger generations being "lazy".

Doesn't it make more sense that the boomers are the ones retiring and the younger generations are taking the jobs which have opened up, thereby leaving openings which immigrants can't fill because they've gone home during the pandemic?

I have a Russian family living across from me, super people! When they came here a number years back he said he pursued his dream of becoming a firefighter and he's been one for 8 years. His wife is a nurse that works very hard and they have kids that seem very respectful and helpful. Owns a nice home, they drive 40K cars. Anyway Ive got to know them, and he's said its very tough to achieve these kind of creature comforts in many parts of Russia and corruption controls opportunities there.

I wonder what he gets paid, 70 cents an hour?
But these two points are unrelated.

Capitalist systems in Europe pay well AND give their citizens all of the benefits this Russian bragged about.

Let's not frame this discussion as an either/or.

We're the wealthiest country in the history of the world. We can afford to offer our citizens these services...

Sweeden has a capitalist approach but the public is willing to pay the higher tax for social programs. Basically, besides oil, their government doesnt control production and competition is prevalent.

Adding to the things that suck.... Taco Bell.

Not only have their prices gone through the roof, but the quality has somehow gone to shit as well. I hardly ever get Taco Bell anymore, despite living about 2 minutes from one, but nothing else sounded good last night so I got a taco meal and a couple extra tacos. Holy crap the quality was bad. All three crunchy tacos were smashed and the thickness of the shells felt like paper. It seems like they have reduced the density of their shells in an effort to cut costs because they're very very thin now. They crumble in your hands. The soft tacos were just very poor quality in general. Not appetizing at all. A 3 taco meal and 3 extra tacos cost nearly $12. It blows my mind. Used to be able to get a grande meal for like $10.

Agreed. Only thing good at taco bell is the doritos locos tacos.

I had that idea years before they came out and man do I love those things.

Agree with OB. Taco time is superior in every way.

It's funny because I always considered Taco Time to be much more expensive, but better food. Now Taco Bell is expensive as well, so it makes no sense to ever go there.

Side note - the tacos as Jack in the Box are good and extremely cheap.

They pay more in income taxes, but have no property taxes. And they get a TON more in benefits than we do. Free Healthcare, free education... They get far more value from their additional taxes than we do just in healthcare alone, not even considering education.

they have always been more but i always found it worth it. Thier enchilada plate alone rocks tacobell out of the arena. Lol.

but im also with ya on the job tacos. Way unhealthy but sooo damned good. They use the perfect amount of hot sauce!

My wife went to the one near our home last week and there was only one guy working the counter, he told her they cant get help at $17 hour.
