For one, Amen was nba all defensive first team last year. For two, Amen had a better statistical season than Scoot last year.

I'd say a guy at the age of 22 making an all nba defensive first team is pretty phenomenal.
You DO realize who you are replying to right?

Prepare yourselves because it's going to be tough watching Amen Thompson this season. He very well might look like the Rockets' best player, because he'll be thrust into a much more prominent role (he may even be their starting point guard) and it looks like his three point shooting has improved. Let's try to focus on the things he can't do so that we don't obsess about passing on him to take Scoot.
Why live in such hind site? Its done. Been done.
Move on.

This seems like a ... 'learn the game and then post' kind of reply!

Amen Thompson is the most overrated player in the NBA. And why does no one talk about his brother who is basically the same player? Scoot’s career PPG and APG are better than Amen’s but I don’t care about comparing them. I just don’t understand all the media types who talks about him like he’s a superstar. He’s a fine player with upside. Nothing special at this point in his career.
One of the twins was better last season in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, minutes/gm, games played, fg%, 3pt% (though neither is good from outside), +/- and made 1st Team all defense. The other was better by 1 total steal and had fewer turnovers. They are not 'basically' the same player, one has been very much better than the other through two seasons.

As I recall, Ausar was supposed to be the shooter and Amen was supposed to be the point guard.
Why would we assume identical twin brothers would be "the same player"? Look at Keegan and Kris, or Robin and Brook, or Horace and Harvey.

Agree 100% ... I'd never think they are the same player, but that's what the post I quoted was saying. One is almost always going to be better than the other. At this point I think it's safe to say that neither brother should be called 'the shooter' of the two, they are both pretty bad outside the paint.

Amen has more PG skills than Avdija, but similarly, that doesn't mean he's a PG; may not even be be a good primary ball-handler. And pretty obviously, perimeter shooting is his glaring flaw. Scoot has those advantages over him, but that's about it at this point

Amen is bigger, may actually be faster, and can guard more positions at an all-NBA level. He can't fit into a lot of lineups because of his shooting, but when he does fit, he's a high impact player. Maybe the Blazers would have been better served drafting Amen, but with Sharpe, Camara, Avdija, Grant, Thybulle....I'm not sure there is any room on the roster for a 26% shooter from three. Of course, after adding Jrue & Dame, there may not be much room for Scoot

Yeah, this is my feeling as well. Yes, Amen is very good. I swayed back and forth between him and Scoot before the draft. Scoot seemed like the safer bet, but Amen looked to have the higher ceiling. However, I would rather have Shae as our SG, and Tou does a lot of the things that Amen does at forward. So, unless Amen proves to be a very good PG, or becomes a much better 3 pt shooter....it will ease the pain of not drafting him.
Of course, the way Sengun and Durant shoot his assists might be a little inflated regardless. Sengun is unbelievable.

I think Amen is the most overrated player in the league. I don't think you could drop Amen on the worst team in the league and he'd be able to carry the team. I thought Toumani should have made 1st team over him.

My biggest issue with Scoot is his health. Dude cannot stay healthy.

He fell into Houston’s lap. They would have drafted Scoot if they had our pick. I wish this discussion would stop.

Amen is good role player. Rockets need PG. Amen and Adams for Jrue and Jerami.

They made up for it by wasting the #3 pick on a pint size Jimmer Fredette

He is amazing out there. Love his game and what he brings. As far as being drafted….. the Rockets would have taken Scoot too with the #3 pick if they had it. Just like Seattle was begging us for the #1 pick to take Greg.

Draft = giant crapshoot.
That is kind of interesting to me. Don't get me wrong here because I was wanting Oden but I have a buddy who said something about trading that pick to Seattle. His stance was Seattle wanted that pick because they wanted Durant and they didn't want the Blazers changing their mind. This was said to me before that draft. It's weird to me now that time has past and seeing how things worked out. He wasn't even really connected or anything. Just a guy I grew up with and still know.

you don't know that

I'd estimate that by the time of the draft Houston knew they had the inside track on signing Fred VanVleet with the cap-space they had worked to create. So, they very well may have opted for Amen with the 3rd pick

I have yet to see Amen as a great offensive player, he sure has fantastic athletic ability, but he just can't shoot. Castle is a much better prospect.

He sure can score near the basket.

Amen = Andre Iguodala

Except Amen’s jumper is the equivalent to Moses Brown’s free throw shot

Castle also has the advantage of playing with an alien on his team ... I think Castle is more well rounded but Amen has higher ceiling and lower floor.
