Honestly, I'd never really gotten into this show....until this season. My wife got me watching it as she knows how much I love music.

These performers are freaking amazing. Enough said.

Another amazing demonstration of superb talent last evening. Sunday/Monday were the first events where the public voted. Will find out the results of those votes (resulting in the top 16) this coming weekend. From there, I think it whittles to the top 10.

No offense ABM. I just feel like i'm in a time machine going back 20 years hearing people excited about this show.

If you really want to watch a singing show, check out the masked singer or the voice. Two shows I find much more entertaining and fun than whay American Idol is nowadays.

KellyAnne Conway's kid is on American Idol so the MAGA's are really excited about it.

I really don't like any of the singing shows but the blind auditions for the Voice are a great concept, after that the show is unwatchable for me. I've caught a couple of Masked Singer episodes when the wife is controlling the remote, it's a cleaver idea but gets old rather quickly.

Well, I know nothing about those other shows, but we've been thoroughly entertained by American Idol. (I would have said AI, but probably would've received the proverbial quip from @barfo pertaining to artificial intelligence.)

Totally can understand that and agree on the voice being best during auditions. Not for everyone. Personally I like masked singer the most.

Give the others a shot if you have time.

There it is. Makes sense now.

What I don't understand is how people still think that a good singing voice is some kind of rare talent.

There are SO many good singers. There might only be a small number of truly epic singers (Streisand, Whitney Houston, etc) but there are tons and tons and tons of really good singers out there. I stopped watching America's Got Talent because singers with sob stories kept winning and I got annoyed because I could just watch the Voice or American Idol if I wanted to see good singers.

Do people think that? I had the impression that American Idol was intended to separate the rare singing voice from the merely good ones which, as you say, are numerous.

For some reason, I think people still are amazed by even decent singing voices. As I said, I got tired of watching America's Got Talent because signers would advance to the finals every time and would beat out some truly unique and interesting acts. There's the sob story factor though, where these shows really play up everyone's story. This person lost a parent to cancer. This person is 400 lbs but they're pretty on the inside. etc etc etc. With that said, these shows have really exposed how many decent singers there are.

It's not that Ava August has an absolutely incredible voice, so much that it's captivating in a unique way. Plus, she's only 15!!

Perfect duet song for her last evening, along with Groban.

LOL

That was random. My uncle used to use banana trees to train Muay Thai. Seen him chopped down a few banana trees with kicks.
I was guessing that was a banana tree.

How else can people like HCP advance in this world?

For fucks sake, that's the first thing listed on HCP's resume!

Hunter Metts is actually from my neck of the woods - Franklin, TN

I'm never sure whether to call it a tree or a plant. Love bananas. Have one after my coffee almost every morning. Too bad it's being threatened by the virulent fungal Panama Disease, also known as Tropical Race 4.
I use to eat a banana every morning with my oatmeal. Now, sadly, as a dialysis patient I am medically prevented from eating bananas. I ate a small banana about two years ago and my potassium level went up so high that I was in danger of having my heart stop. Only dialysis can remove potassium from your blood. There is a medication that you can take with foods containing high amounts of potassium that binds the potassium in the gut but it is not any fun to take. Dialysis patients get all of their potassium removed during dialysis just to have just the right amount reinserted during the dialysis process. This is why I sometimes have a glass of orange juice right before going to dialysis. Bananas have too much potassium for my safety during the three hours between breakfast and dialysis.

Yet another 2 nights of spectacular music. Really pulling for 1) Ava August; 2) Willie Spence; 3) Madison Watkins; 4) Hunter Metts (mainly. because he's local to us.)

One of the top contestants, Wyatt Pike, mysteriously left the show. He recently killed his top 16 performance (Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody"), and the reasoning behind his departure is still unknown.

Who actually watches this shit??????? I thought the show had died a merciful death a couple of years ago.......
