Yep, you can't solve poverty without addressing drugs/mental health, and you can't address drugs/mental health without addressing poverty.
I know those who not poverty stricken that did so many drugs they are mental head cases now. As a society we are way too tolerant of drugs infiltrating our communities and families. You attack the drug's coming in and you will decrease mental illness.

I was talking to a guy who operates a big crane downtown Denver. I guess the tweakers there will free-climb an entire crane boom in the middle of the night, all the way to the top, severing the main wire harness (very large, 8 or 10 inches in diameter) into manageable 1 or 2 foot chunks. They then drop these chunks down through the center of the boom to the ground. Here, the B crew gets to work peeling the plastic insulation off of the chunks of wire like squirrels, leaving only piles of plastic peelings before they escape into the night.

Sure, some people are addicts. But most drug and mental illness problems align with stress related to financial problems or living situation...

Lets just say Murderers and Rapists. You can't disagree with that, can you?
Who would?
Unless your definition of a rapist differs from someone else's? When is rape statutory? Wait did Sam Adams actually rape that you man that was underage?
Oh boy does this get slippery?
Murder? At what degree? Was it murder or negligence? Abortion? Revenge? Crime of passion? Temporary insanity? Death with dignity?

My point has been made. I'm done here. Essentially I'm dropping the Mic.

You're right, lets just let them free. Eventually the problem will fix themselves.

People make things unnecessarily complicated for no reason.

Murder in the first = death.
2nd = life in prison no parole

Rape= forcible sexual assault or raping or sexually assaulting someone underage (non-statuatory) = death.

As for these catalytic converter thieves, I'm pretty sure they get nothing more than a slap on the wrist. We should make it legal for citizens to beat the shit out of them. These smash and grabbers too.

WE'RE NOT TWEAKERS, DAMMIT!

We're creative monetary adventurers.

As you vote Republican and wonder why things are complicated? SMH?

Pretty sure you can legally beat the shit out of these people.

They can sue you, but anybody can sue anybody.

Republicans aren't the ones pushing catch and release, defunding the police, bail reform and restorative justice. Dems seem to embrace crime and are soft on it.

People are desperate for ice cream, and who can blame them? If we would just address the lack of ice cream availability and disparity of dessert distribution in this country, this kind of thing wouldn't happen.

Because those are corrupt policies that are only effective in authoritarian societies.

Free countries with low crime rates don't do those things.

In America, when you don't crack down on crime, the undesirables in society just go wild, which is what we've been seeing.

Americans aren't different than other people in the world.

That's why the whole slavery and abusing Chinese laborers is frowned upon.

Human nature is human nature. America's education, healthcare, and judicial systems are fucked up. That's why we have high rates of crime even though we jail a larger portion of our population than any other country in the world. 25% of the world's prison population resides right here in the US. We're less than 5% of the world population.

Jail doesn't work. It has never worked. Our crime rates are still lower now than they have been in our past. Because we used to have a healthy middle class.

But crime rates are on the rise because we are shrinking our middle class and pushing more of them into poverty (because of the fucked up systems referenced above).

Yes, Americans are different from other people in the world. Every country's people are way different. Its the result of hundreds or even thousands of years of societal expectations and norms.

People in Japan, for instance, are much more respectful of others. You just don't get that here in the US.

No, that's not how human nature works. What you are describing is culture. Human nature trumps culture every time.

Desperate people ignore culture in favor of survival. Everywhere in the world.

Its not even desperation for many of these criminals. Its just what they know, and they don't give a fuck about stealing or assaulting innocent people. They should be totally written out of society. Lock em away and throw away the key. Or even better, put a bullet in them and save everyone the headache.

Policy requires careful consideration. Without careful consideration you get fucked up situations that are inefficient and ineffective. Like the systems I've pointed out.

You are being emotional and flippant in your analysis of the situation, so you are not reaching logical conclusions.

You aren't alone. Unfortunately much of our population views things the same way.

This is how authoritarians gain power.

We are this way because we see what's happening outside. Criminals running wild. Being released and then doing it again and again. Powerless to do anything about it. Society is crumbling right before our eyes. Beautiful cities are turning into festering shitholes of crime.

Fuck "careful consideration". Enforce the damn laws and lock criminals away for a long time.

What we are seeing is a result of locking "criminals" away.
But I agree. Need to enforce the laws we have. Unfortunately police aren't interested in doing that unless they get to be judge and jury as well...

So we'll deal with the crime until we want to support logical policies which have been proven to work everywhere they've been enacted.
