I mentioned in the Run Around that I thought Blazers president Larry Miller's email to the rest of the league regarding Darius Miles seemed imprudent. Since then I've thought about this and would like to add unwise and silly to the list.

Apparently the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers agrees with me, at least according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, who appears to have unfettered access to the email accounts of the NBA's owners.

Dan Gilbert, said Cavs owner, hit reply all.

"With all due respect...although the Cleveland Cavaliers have no interest in signing Darius Miles and will not be signing Darius Miles," Gilbert wrote, "I find your email quite peculiar from two standpoints:

"1. It's dead wrong. I believe that all 30 NBA teams were and are fully aware of the terms and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement as to which all teams and the NBA are a party to, including the Portland Trailblazers.

"2. Are legal threats through a mass email the best way to circumvent the known potential consequences that could result from the Trailblazers decisions and actions they took with respect to Darius Miles?

This could have been a boring little story with boring and only semi-serious salary cap ramifications. Now it's kind of fun.

Gilbert's right. I'm as much a dyed-in-the-wool Blazer fan as anyone, but when I heard about this email, I was disgusted. I understand that nobody likes to lose, but it's getting to be time for us to realize that we gambled on the Miles thing, our gamble isn't going to pay off, and just accept it.
