Iguodala, 29, promises to be one of the most desired players on the summer market. His agent, Rob Pelinka, informed Denver CEO Josh Kroenke of the plan in a meeting on Thursday in Los Angeles.

"We are fully aware of Andre's intentions and he's well aware of how much we want him back," Kroenke told Yahoo! Sports Friday afternoon. "Andre is a huge priority for our organization."

Iguodala will bypass the $15.9 million owed him next season and will be eligible to sign a new four-year deal elsewhere or sign an extension up to five years with the Nuggets.

Iguodala has until June 25 to exercise the early termination clause on his contract, and virtually all players wait until the deadline to file the necessary paperwork. Without triggering the opt-out cause, Iguodala could only sign a three-year extension with Denver.

After superstars Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, Iguodala will be a target for several teams, including the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons and New Orleans Pelicans, league sources said.

Kroenke expressed a strong desire to keep Iguodala, but the losses of general manager Masai Ujiri and coach George Karl makes the franchise's future a little murky. Nevertheless, Kroenke is expected to have a GM and coach hired with time to formulate a vision and offer to try to keep Iguodala in Denver.

Iguodala has previously expressed a strong fondness for the Nuggets organization and his teammates, and his decision to opt out could ultimately lead to him signing an extension to stay in Denver.
Denver Nuggets forward Andre Iguodala has decided to opt out of the final year of his contract and enter free agency, Yahoo! Sports has learned.
After Iguodala joined the Nuggets as part of last summer's four-way Howard blockbuster, the franchise pushed higher on its rise as a Western Conference contender. As the Philadelphia 76ers struggled without his presence, Iguodala's all-around abilities and leadership meshed perfectly with a young Nuggets roster.

Iguodala played his best basketball in the playoffs for Denver, averaging 18 points, eight rebounds, 5.3 assists and two steals in the six-game loss to the Golden State Warriors. For the season, Iguodala – an extremely versatile defender – averaged 13 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Iguodala played his first eight NBA seasons for the 76ers.

why should Olshey make a move? this guy reminds me of Gerald Wallace, players who rely on athleticism aren't good value when they approa h 30 - Neil should just let old dogs alone

Well the big problem with Wallace was not his age it was he was a natural SF and that was the same position the Blazers play Batum at. Iguodala is a natural SG and that would allow Mathews to be a sixth man like he should be.

Iggy is not a natural SG. He may play the position a lot but he is actually a natural SF. You should be fine with that though as it may mean moving Batum to SG - the drum you have been beating.

Ya well either position will due...Lillard, Iggy, Batum, Aldridge and DeAndre Jordan.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

I don't see both Iggy and Jordan making it here. We don't have cap room for that and we don't have any large contracts to send LAC.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

He has Gerald Wallace written all over him.

No.

Thanks.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

Not.

Swayed.

Unless,

we

trade

Batum.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

My theory is just to amass talent. He's an allstar and Olympian. Great upgrade at the wing. Elite defender...with him, lillard and LA...we are a solid playoff team

Just do it.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

Sign Igoudala, trade Batum and 10 for Vucevic & Harkless

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

The difference between him and Wallace is he is a better dribbler and passer. But I would not get rid of Batum to sign him. His outside shot is the shits regardless of what position he is playing so you might as well keep him at the SG where he has a size advantage.

Batum just signed a big contract why would he get traded? Lets trade Batum now that his value has dropped.

A year ago, the board decided: Sign Batum to the overpaid amount Minny is offering, give him a half-season, and if he hasn't greatly improved, trade him at the mid-season deadline.

So the answer to your question is, he's not earning his $10M here, but other teams are willing to give us $10M worth of players who earn it. We would come out ahead.

Yahoo Sports reported Friday afternoon that the Nuggets small forward will opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent. The report also lists the Pistons as potential suitors — along with several other teams. The Pistons like the athletic, veteran defender, and he fits the need of a starting-caliber small forward. And they will have the cap space with $20-million-plus to spend. Detroit Free Press

They would be tough to beat. Especially if AI likes living in a third world county.

Kidding. I have been to Auburn Hills. It is very nice. (In the off season)

LoL, The board decided. So which one of us plays Paul Allen and which one of us plays the other teams GM?

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

I vote yes on Iggy. He replecates Batum in a lot of areas, but so what? They are all compatable areas. Iggy is a playmaker at SG also, him and Lillard would play off eachother well. Im not even worried about physical decline, at 29 hes got plenty gas in the tank for a 4 year contract. Another bonus is it would even out or experience on the roster a bit more and align our win window more with LA. My one concern with this move however, is that it would put us light at center, which could piss of LA. If it didn't work out well it could force a LA trade sooner rather than later.

Ya and he may be 29 but he wouldn't have to but he would not be the first or second option in Portland so I think it's a good fit. Plus the Blazers are ready to win now.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

So you guys would rather try to draft a rookie like Pope than try to go out and sign a guy like Iguodala? This is why this team doesn't win. Maybe the Clippers should focus more on the draft then signing a guy like Garnett.

I don't think you understand this but it is not an either/or situation.

It's not, but he is right. Some guys on this board belly ache about keeping or going after guys that are 27-30 in their prime.

Some posters want our entire team 19-25 with tons of potential with the hope of a championship instead of a team comprised of competing now

I agree with that. I don't see Olshey spending the near-max to bring in Iggy even if I wanted him to though. He seems dedicated to spend most of our cap space on a big-time Center.

I get going after a center, but if the talent is at sg, go after that and use a stop gap at center. Jermaine oneal and iggy wouldnt be so bad.

I wouldn't mind #10 and Freeland for gortat, with the idea of signing tyreke Evans with the rest.

I like Gortat, he would be a prime target of mine. And once again, I agree with you but I don't think Olshey agrees with us and he (among others) is the one making the decision. Not us. I know that is obvious but I think it is still worth pointing out to some (not saying you specifically). I certainly don't mean this to stifle discussion though. I enjoy it as much as the next guy.

He has Gerald Wallace written all over him.

However, Gerald Wallace was never an elite defender, where Iggy is.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

Huh? Wallace was a first team all-defense in 2010 and has always been a good defensive player. Once he started to lose his explosiveness it was a wrap.

OK--I stand corrected. I guess I never thought of him as that great of a defender, and I see Iggy as elite and perhaps even underrated. Clearly just my opinion though.

I think he's referring to the fact that Wallace's play went way down hill, especially once he got to the Nets.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

Blazer fans think Gerald Wallace was so good when he was with us because he easily took the starting job from the budding superstar Batum.

Then, Wallace looks ordinary with the Nets. He must have aged instantly.

Our reasoning may contain a false assumption. Better search for it in what I just wrote.

Re: Andre Iguodala plans to opt out of contract to enter free agency..Make a move Osh

Totally agree with the Iggy = Wallace comp. Iggy is/was better, but not by much...and he's just entering the "Blazers/Nets" phase of Wallace's career. I'd prefer to have cap space than Iggy at this point.

The difference is that Iggy would not have to be the first, second or third option on the Blazers. Stop looking at his age so much and look at what he can do that would help this team. How many really good SG that are better then Iggy are in the league again?
