Appears to be a pattern these days....

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Despite the fallout over the past month, the Cavaliers' front office must have done at least a few things right over the past five years. Because teams keep hiring their executives away.

The latest was Cavs assistant general manager Lance Blanks, who was hired as the Phoenix Suns' general manager on Thursday. Blanks, who arrived with former GM Danny Ferry from the San Antonio Spurs in 2005, is the second executive to be hired away in the past week.............

Just Phoenix being cheap, imo.

GM isn't a lucrative position where an NBA franchise would have to go the cheap route. He's another Popovich/Buford protege that NBA front office type think will turn to gold if they get a job calling the shots.

Huh? Who else was hired?

I would rather hire a new young GM, then a new young coach. People always complain about hiring "re-treads" for coaches and that they should give the young ones a chance. Well iMO GM's are easier to gamble on. It's not an easy job, but it's not rocket science. Hire a young intellegent hard working protege' and there is no reason why they can't perform just as well as some of the current gM's out there.

I would disagree. A good GM builds a team, has a clear vision, evaluates talent, works salaries... A team needs both a good GM and coach in order to be as successful as they can be.

No question you need a good GM. My point is that just because Phoenix hired someone young doesn't mean he isn't good. Young GM's can have a vision, work salaries, and listen to their scouts just as easy as older GM's. And for some reason they know the CBA better because they were forced to study it with their previous posiitions.

It's not like players. Lots of people can do it. Maybe not you or I, but there are more than a few hundred people out their who can manage an organization.
