This is America, and this is how we do things in America.

The backlash against this is just another example of entitled politically correct crybabies throwing a hysterical pants shitting fit over something they find "offensive". Maybe people need a "safe space" so they don't get their feelings hurt? :dunno:

What would have been an impressive protest would be to have taken his wealth, moved to an inner city neighborhood, started a youth center and program and joined the local police force...that's change...still, like I said, he has every right to protest however he wants to as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else....I wonder if you actually panned the audience how many people would have been sleeping or nodding out during the anthem...with nothing to protest

I dont give a shit what you do during the pledge and i dont think sitting makes you a martyr. Its just being lazy. I wish he would sit in the pocket instead of scrambling backwards.

I just cant take kap seriously. Kudos to him for standing up for what he believes in. Anyone feeling wronged should fight for their rights. I just cant take him seriously. He has changed so much since losing his job and getting a new girl. Is he doing this for her (like when he became vegan) or the people?

Attention.

Would anyone outside of some diehard 49er fans give a shit about the guy if it weren't for this?

Makes sense. Which is precisely why i cant take him seriously. I respect him for standing up for what he believes in....

I feel like lebron, wade, melo and cp3's way of protesting this stuff was wayyyyyy better.

Yeah...I completely disagree. They used a venue that guaranteed them tons of attention to say a bunch of stuff that nobody could disagree with, and got more attention for the fact these big stars were speaking than for what they were actually saying. The only aftereffect was praise for them for their choice to speak.

Kapernick chose the least watched part of the least watched games to do something by himself and for his own conscience without any fanfare or guaranteed attention, with a message (if noticed) that he knew would be controversial. And as a result, he's actually initiated (our perhaps just refreshed) a conversation about the issue.

he is just a rich guy who doesn't think America is great.

he has white parents for gods sake, what would he know about that anyways?

Wow, this is an poor statement. I have black children and they are very aware of their culture. They also know they are black.

Don't understand why anyone is outraged. Even if you don't like the method of protest, you have to admire that he's protesting something that is very real and needs to be fixed.

People are going to criticize the method so that the meaning is lost and nothing gets fixed. So kudos to all the people criticizing the method - you're a part of the problem. But that's just what the folks in charge wanted, anyway.

It's actually worked...he's gotten more ink than any victim ever did in the media.....I still criticize his method mainly for my own values about how he should represent his franchise and fanbase. I have no problem with his activism, just with his choice of soap box....growing up with the Civil Rights movements of the 60's I'm not so sure this guy fixed anything.....it seems to me racial tensions are heading the wrong direction

Tons of fans are out in the concourse during the national anthem, and no one gives a shit.

I support his right to protest against the government...but he should do it off the job...he's paid to entertain and signed a contract with an American sports franchise
So you're saying part of his job, that he's paid for, is standing for the National Anthem? So all the others who do stand are only showing respect because they're paid to?

(Not saying this is your view, but) it's funny: I bet there's a huge overlap between the groups who get their panties in a bunch about sitting for the national anthem and the people who support Kim Davis and pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for Plan B.

....he should respect the fans at game time. I'm not religious but I'll close my eyes and join a family in prayer if I'm invited to dinner...it's showing respect. He could take some of his millions and run an ad for his beliefs with more to say than sitting on his butt

He is respecting the fans. The fans like me who think that the whole thing of playing the national anthem is total bullshit. Finally we get OUR representative.

1. What if only half the family does that, while the other half rolls its eyes?
2. Shouldn't the family respect a visitor's lack of religion, too?

Reminds me of this Al Franken quote: "We love America just as much as they do. But in a different way. You see, they love America like a 4-year-old loves his mommy. Liberals love America like grown-ups. To a 4-year-old, everything Mommy does is wonderful and anyone who criticizes Mommy is bad. Grown-up love means actually understanding what you love, taking the good with the bad and helping your loved one grow. Love takes attention and work and is the best thing in the world. That's why we liberals want America to do the right thing. We know America is the hope of the world, and we love it and want it to do well."

Thank God for those liberals. I'm one of those post-apocolyptic Morlocks living underground in the innards of heavy machinery they must save this country from.

What I said was clear...it's only my view and value system..I respect freedom of speech..you can argue about the anthem with someone else Rasta....it's a simple courtesy like taking your shoes off before entering a Japanese house....no big deal. Please....I don't want to be anybody's overlapping group member

I take my shoes off when watching Japanese football.
