Why does that matter? So if a person didn't protest in the past they can't protest in the future?

You could fly the American flag in front of your house upside down because Hillary gets elected. But your neighbors could say you didn't do that when Bush and Obama were president, you can't do it now.

You know what would be awesome? If Kapernick continued to sit during the anthem and no one gave a shit. I mean seriously, why do you guys care so much what he does?

Ask Shaq not me. And I've already stated he can do what he wants during the anthem bro. I still think hes a dick but why do you care I care?

I'm concerned that you're becoming a liberal. Wanting to control what everyone does is some left wing nanny state type of shit.

Interesting take on Liberals Sly. But worry not. I am nowhere close to being a lefter. I do however hover in the center on some issues, and more right on others and left on a few (like environment). You could say I take issues one by one to make a decision.

I like what Shaq said on the topic -- http://www.foxsports.com/nba/story/...-protest-fox-and-friends-never-do-that-090716

"I don't know Colin, but again, to each his own. I don't really have a say on it, but I would never do that. My father was a military man, and you know, he protected this country. Uncles are in law enforcement, you know, they go out and work hard every day.

"Just, (there are) other ways to get your point across."

"My question is, how come you didn't do it last year? Or how come you didn't do it when you first entered the NFL?"
Yeah, that's a BS question. If someone becomes enlightened to or aware of an issue, does it really matter at what point in life or their career it happened?

IMO I think Shaq is inferring Colin didn't do it back then because he knew he'd be cut (traded, whatever), losing out on millions. Basically his money is more important than the real issues.

Man, hasn't this thing had it's 15 minutes yet?

I do not care if Colin Kaepernick stands or sits during the national anthem. My love for my country is not impacted one way or another by his choice to demonstrate his dissatisfaction with the state of racial affairs in America by sitting during the playing of the anthem. He's more than made his point. Can't we just let it end there?

Frankly, I kind of wish that they'd do away with playing the national anthem at sporting events. I've never understood why this is done in the first place. If I go to any other entertainment venue (movies, opera, ballet, ice skating, etc.) I do not have to listen as some local talent strains to hit the high notes as they butcher the "Star Spangled Banner". It just seems kind of weird to me, especially given the number of international players in most sports these days.

I don't know if I agree that the flag represents the troops. The flag represents the country. The troops wear the flag, but the flag represents much more than just our troops or what our troops have done.

And for every good thing that American troops have done, there have been plenty of bad things that have been done by men wearing that flag on their arm, both on foreign soils and domestically. Our country has done a lot of messed up things, and we have caused/or been a party to a lot of the problems that we're dealing with globally. Specifically, South America and the Middle East are both royally messed up and a lot of that is because of us, Britain, and France.

So I can see why someone would not want to salute the flag, because I could see why some people would not be proud of this country. I think that's how I feel right now. I'm proud of our origins, but I'm not happy with how this country is being run currently and the flag stands for more than just the past.

I seriously hate people. I respect colin for what he has done, but the normal everyday person....

Idk if its just because of the election, or changes in america, or whatever. But people are so vile to each other nowadays.

Why such name calling? Trust me, ive hurled some insults and received some too, so im not completely innocent. But holy shit. Go read facebook comments under any news article referencing.kaepernick, and it will make you not even want to be around anybody.

I don't even go on facebook anymore. It's just people posting nasty things about the other "side," and for the most part I don't understand why people can't be civil. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them literally Hitler. I feel like our country is more divided now than ever before.

The entire Seattle Seahawks team will protest the national anthem at opening game

The Seattle Seahawks will become the first NFL team to join Colin Kaepernick’s silent protest during the national anthem this Sunday.

In their home opener against the Miami Dolphins, the Seattle Seahawks have planned a “big surprise” during the national anthem, according to starting linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner emphasized that the entire roster will take part in the protest, though he didn’t specify if the team would sit or kneel.

“Anything we want to do, it’s not going to be individual. It’s going to be a team thing. That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals,” Wagner told the Seattle Times.

I'm going to protest by refusing to watch the Seahawks play. I haven't decided if I will do that standing or sitting.

So what's the end goal here? If you're going to protest something, there should be a clear deliverable that you're looking for, no?

So Kaepernick is going to sit during the anthem until......... what exactly? I mean, I guess I could sit during the national anthem until government corruption ends..... but I would be sitting for a very long time.

Sign of the times, people used to take a stand for things, now it's a sit.

Anything out of Seattle is a shit pile anyway.

Sounders
Mariners

You poor poor soul....

The Cowboys held their first training camp at Pacific University. They belonged to us before they belonged to Texas. Niners or Seahawks ever hold a training camp in Oregon?

I thought the Seahawks did once...... but I might be wrong.

Sorry I'm a little late to this thread.

I haven't read the entire thread, but as a 9er fan, I thought I'd give my take.

Firstly, NO, I do not support him whatsoever. There were many better and more proper ways to address this issue, and he failed to consider that.

Secondly, he's denounced an entire employment sector by calling them murderers, pigs, and killers, and then tried to go back and sugarcoat what he's said. But I'm not buying it, and neither are a lot of people.

His sugarcoat argument has been "look, I'm calling out the bad cops, the corrupt ones". Well, you see Colin, there's a BIG problem with that: cops don't wear signs that say "hey, I'm a bad cop", or "hey, I'm a good cop". They all wear ONE uniform, and ONE badge, and they all swore the SAME oath.

So yes, you ARE lumping in all of them, by your words and your actions.

I've already turned in the one Kaepernick shirt I had to the Goodwill. Hopefully, it will go to clothe someone less fortunate than the guy who's image and number are on it.

I've been arguing with fellow fans over on Niner Nation SB blog, and it's very divided over there right now, and it's not pretty.

Unfortunately, it seems Kap's little protest is spreading like a cancer. Which is great....just what we need: SJWs taking over our sports with Politics and exaggerated Social Issues. God forbid I have ONE day a week where I get to watch a fucking game without being bombarded by politics or social issues. No no, can't have that, can we?

I fear in the coming years, there's going to be political signs and protest banners in bars and lounges in this country. Or vacations spots. Because God forbid we have a little peace and quiet from it.

It's already happening at the ONE cigar lounge I like to go to when the weather's bad. They have two TVs there that are ALWAYS turned to politics, with blowhards yammering away about who's more corrupt or some shit. What, now I can't smoke a fucking cigar in peace? Has it come to this?

I love this country, but I fear where it's going.

Go Gabbert. Shut these assholes up. Hopefully by this time next year, Colin will be out of the league. I'm so embarrassed that I supported him for so long.

Its Steven A Smith clone of Spike Lee. I can't stand him. When "first take" comes on we all should sit and ignore his broadcast. Bayless and this schmoe can be canned for all I care. Non athletes are not experts on sports. They are merely egotists.

Very true. Boldin is an absolute beast on the field, and a total gentleman off of it. Unlike Colin, he's not a selfish douche. I have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for Boldin. I'm glad he found a team to play with this season (was it the Lions?).
