Exclusive Anthony Davis Sweepstakes Entry: Blazers

I believe the report was that Griffin wanted to get into the playoff mix with an established player, a young player and picks. I think that's why people jumped to Portland as an option as they could give those things although their picks aren't expected to be very high.

One thing I think any team needs to recognize when going after AD is he's oft been injured and he really hasn't had a lot of success yet, could be his team but Jrue is a really solid guard.

I also checked the trade from NY side because the latest report has Davis interested in the Lakers and Knicks only. He is really pushing the Pelicans. Of course if it's even a rental I say hell yes for CJ+Zach, but maybe Olshey doesn't see it this way. I hope he does and also that Griffin didn't just lie to get a great return and he really wants an all star caliber guy.

Yeah who knows. Agents / GM's "sources" all play the media so hard with that stuff, it's fun to read and talk about, but it's hard to take any of it as truth. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the Woj stuff was just from NO trying to get it out there that hey Portlands got a shot! Or Griffin out trying to get more for AD. Wouldn't surprise me if the Atlantic stuff was an LAL / NYK guy or Rich Paul just floating stuff out there. What Anthony Davis actually wants, who knows...

People look at the Raptors with Kawhi and think maybe we could do that if we took that kind of risk too. They gave up a guy who had led them with mild post-season success, and a young big. They even got Danny Green in the process of all that.
But Kawhi was actually a winner.

I am not up on the Knicks, but what do they have to offer anyone other than picks?? Same with the Lakers: a crew of guys who don't really deliver??? A multi-team deal is the only way I can see AD going to LAL or NYN. Anyone silly enough to take Lonzo Ball and all the misery that accompanies him is a bonehead I say.

Are you saying you wouldn't give up CJ and Zach for AD?
That's pretty much the tipping point for me. I can see that it could definitely make us better. BUT:
  • I don't trust Davis to be healthy at the end of the regular season.
  • I don't like how Davis turned into such a bitch this past season.
  • I think Davis is very good, but also overrated - if he were as good as people say he is his team would be a lot better.
  • After Zach's "Fuck you, hoe!" run-in with Klay he is now a cult hero of mine.
  • Zach is on a rookie contract - something VERY valuable that I wouldn't give up lightly.
  • Zach may never be as good as Davis, but the promise he showed at the end of the season, combined with the above two points, makes me want to find out how good he can be. I think he's the perfect fit next to Nurk.
Basically, I really don't want to trade Zach or Nurk (or Dame, obviously). To me, those three are our team. I think this trade is more likely than not to turn into another Jerm/Davis trade.

That said, if it were to happen I'll find a way to get excited about it.

Here's question.

Is Zach Collins more like Jakob Poeltl or Pascal Siakam? Because Siakam made a massive jump from year 2 to year 3. Poeltl didn't.

I love CJ. Obviously I would much have him starting for us next year then Simons. But if I am New Orleans, with where they are right now, it would be just the opposite. I would much rather have the young 20 year old and his contract,t along with Zach and his contract, and our first round pick. (Along with ending contract of ET) It would come down to how well they know Simons and if they like him as much as we do.

But they don’t (according to Woj.) At some point something has to give though. I don’t think we drafted Simons and Trent with the idea that one would be a second unit guy and the other a towel waiver. Olshey has set himself up nicely to make this kind of move. He just has to finally go for it. Should be a no brainer, but Olshey has shown such a proclivity for “his guys” that I have my doubts.

Boston wasn't on Kyrie's list. Toronto wasn't on Kawhi's, so this means very little from a trade perspective.

Anything else of note in that article?

While this is pretty much true, wouldn't you rather have a player tell you he isn't going to re-sign a full season and a half beforehand instead of claiming he's going to stay and bolting for nothing? If I'm New Orleans I'd much rather have Davis do this compared to what guys like Durant and Aldridge did.

And the fears of him walking are mostly unfounded. All four LA and NY teams are going to blow their cap space this summer. The only team of significance with capspace next summer will be GS which is a scary thought (but really unlikely). A deep playoff run and Dame's leadership should be enough to get him to re-sign.

This is a good point. The Lakers (and Clippers) can't afford to tell their fans wait wait wait until next year again. We're getting Paul George! No, wait, we're getting Kawhi Leonard! Uh, wait one more year, please.... Lebron said what?
