I agree with this. Make the trade with NY. Trade Jrue to the highest bidder. You start your rebuild with Dennis Smith Jr, RJ Barrett, Zion, and Mitchell Robinson plus whatever you can get for Jrue. That's a pretty good start to "the process".
Right?

The problem is the Pelicans play in the smallest market in the league. At the end of the day, it’s still a business, and I think it’d be a tough sell to ownership.

Glad that you posted this, but getting Batum is the opposite of "clear(ing) ET and Moe's salaries."
Did you know that last year Batum had his best shooting % in five years and also lowest turnover rate since 2010-11?

You don't think marketing Zion cancels out just about all of those issues?

Depends on how he starts out. If he comes in dominating, then sure. But if he struggles for whatever reason, then media attention will fade quick.

Media attention, maybe, doubt it.

I'm talking about getting the city to support a rebuild. Since Cleveland got LeBron in 2003, I don't think there's been a single player more worthy of keeping people's interest in a rebuild than the Zion hype would. It doesn't really matter how he does on the court, at least initially.

Sure but rebuilds typically take 3-5 years. They might get behind it initially, but if he struggles, media attention die and in six months they are old news and the city feels it.

So they buy it for 6 months and then spend 4 years regretting it?

There are risks no matter what option they take. Up to the GM / Owners to determine what risks their willing to go for. Every single situation we lay out for the Pelicans could have them become an afterthought in a year or so if things don't pan out.

So? If they trade for CJ or a player of his level they might contend for a playoff spot but they certainly aren't contenders.

They are up shit creek no matter what.
But cj and Zion with some other decent acquisitions is a playoff team. Something they weren't this year.

Normally teams go into the break it all down rebuild in search of a star to build around. N.O. kickstarted their rebuild by locking into Zion. They have the star to build around. I think with Zion in place, and with jrue, it makes more sense to go for a rebuild/contend package over full rebuild.

IMO, it'll make things a ton easier on Zion playing with jrue and CJ than it will with 4 rookies, like everyone usually likes to suggest a rebuild.

Zion, Jrue, CJ, and Zach is a nice mixture of ceiling and production, and most importantly, they compliment each other well.

Woj just said if the Lakers still have their No. 4th overall Pick on Draft Night, it is likely they will NOT complete a Trade for Anthony Davis.

Also interesting, Woj basiclly said the Celtics are looking to build around their core and may be pivoting from the Davis Trade they wanted to do.

Woj: Oklahoma will be aggressive in trade talks with the 21 Pick . They're in "absolute win-now mode" haha good luck

Probably them feeling kyrie is walking

Lmao. They cant even trade it because they traded their 2020 1st round pick, and nobody wants their contracts.

Lakers aren’t even an option in my eyes, that’s just media/agent fap. I’m more “worried” about teams like Denver, and the Clippers.

How bad do the Pels front office and owner want to be in the playoffs this coming year?
That is the question. You can't make it with a team of rookies. For all we know Zion will be a dud like Lonzo ball who was supposed to be, and I quote the Lakers on draft day, "...a transcendent talent." What if he gains 50 pound like Shawn Kemp? He may have a tendency for corpulence.

Denver could get a deal done if they decided to.

I would think inside they would rather have Irving walk as they were a better and more cohesive team without him the year before and have Rozier that did a very good job running the team the previous year.
