Hey all,

I have not been around much at all because I'm getting ready to take the CPA exam. Do we have anybody that is a CPA or has taken the CPA exam here? I'm taking the Financial and Auditing sections in January.

Any advice to anyone that has? We have all types of people around here so I thought I would ask.

I'm a CPA, but it's been over a decade since I took the exam.

What should I expect? I'm taking Becker CPA review classes, did you take anything like this? Was it as hard as everyone suggests?

I didn't think the tests were all that hard, but I was in grad school mode at the time. I was dealing with issues surrounding accounting philosophy all the time, so I went in more comfortable than most. That being said, rote memorization is a huge part of the exam. Whenever you can, try to understand the "why" behind the FAS's and not just the rules. It helps you narrow down the choices and BS where you need to.

As for study guides, I worked with three other people from grad school and ran through a prep class through Northwestern University. Studying as a team was hugely important.
