Any Hope for Bobby Simmons?

The forgotten man in this week's transactions was and is Bobby Simmons, Most Improved Player, 2004-05, Most Successful D-Leaguer.

He had two surgeries on his foot/ankle within a month in 06-07, missed that entire season and then fell behind early last summer.

He is another deep shooter, which appears to be part of some plan. He is a career 39.0% shooter, with a high of 41% in his MIP season.

He's only 28, same age as RJ, good defender, poor ball handler.

Although we know the perils of basing a player's future success on what he does for a lottery team at the end of a season (See Magloire, Jamaal), there is some hope from what Simmons did in April.

In 10 games, Simmons averaged 12.7 ppg in 23.8 mpg, hauling in 3.1 rebounds as well. He shot 51.6% overall, 46.5 from the arc and 85.7% from the line. To go with that, he averaged 0.9 apg and 0.7 steals. His assist to turnover rate was not good since he averaged more turnovers (1.6) than steals. He also was a foul machine, picking up nearly three a game.

His coach, Larry Krystkowiak, sucked. Thorn says he will be part of the rotation.

if he can stay healthy, I think he can contribute. I though he was a better defender then RJ when with the clippers. haven't seen much of him in Milwaukee. If he can get back to what he was pre-injury, i think he fits in perfectly at the 3 spot. Solid defender, doesnt need the ball, and can hit open shots.

From what I've heard, those injuries have destroyed his mobility. I don't think we can expect all that much from him. If he can provide some outside shooting I will be happy.

I always figured he would be at least serviceable to us, and that he would definitely start. Not sure how good he'll be, but his mid-range shot is money. I trust his shot more than RJ's, at least.

Serviceable is a great word for it and I agree with this line of thinking pegs. I really believe that the past two seasons were a result of an injury and being in a very up and down Bucks organization. If healthy he can provide a similar dimension for us that RJ did. Now don't get me wrong he's no gonna be our leading scorer but he is a hard worker and a could help in unexpected areas like Lammond Murray did for us a few seasons ago. If he comes in with a positive attitude and in good shape I can see him being a guy Frank will enjoy coaching.

He's got the ability to be a solid contributor to you guys. I've haven't seen him play in a while, but like everyone else has mentioned, he's got a good midrange game and is a solid defender. You just have to hope that those ankle issues don't hinder his mobility too much.

Can anyone elaborate on what the injuries were, when/how they were suffered, and why there were TWO surgeries so close together?

From what I could find the two right on top of each other were remove bone spurs and plantar fasciitis. Then last season was different busies and bumps all over from his legs to his neck.

I expect him to give full effort and everything his body is capable of. If his wheels have sufficiently healed, he'll surprise a lot of people because Frank is going to love his work ethic.

My expectations are low. I'm more focused on seeing what the rookies can do. If he can come in and put up 10ppg, defend, and be a good influence on the younger players, I'll be very happy.

If he's ever healthy again he'll be an asset.

i'll be happy if he'll be able to hit a three here and there. im not going to get suckered into that, "in 30 min. he did so and so and his stats were x and x" thats what happened with magloire and we know where he went. not expecting much from him

hey i love the trade... but look we are losing jefferson... he was our leading scorer... so thats like 22-24 ppgs.... if yi can pick up like 12 of those per game, simmons can put up like 7 - 9 ppg than we have made up for the lost... i really expect a lot of Yi and maybe thats a bad thing... but if u look at the monthly breakdowns from his rookie seasons the first 2-3 months he was averaging 12 ppgs... so if he can build on his endurance and his physic to take the beatin of a NBA season... why not?!?! and hes goin to be playin with guys that will get him open and he will have time to set and take his smooth stroke

and thats not including what the 3 rookies can do... and with vince coming of surgery to fix up his busted ankle... and harris have the FREEDOM to do whatever he wants offensively... im excited

hopefully boone and swat get better... and krstic should be back... and regain his touch!!

If he really is health i think he has a great amount of skill set, but hes not Jefferson. He is a great shooter and i think at the SF position he could have a good role in our lineup. Hey i might be wrong though two years ago i was a loyal knicks fan(get at me for that). Lets go Nets!!!!

exactly i could care less if he ever gets off the bench. those years of him being a c list player are over. he was playing above his norm then.

I'm looking forward to it being distributed amongst other players. Don't need 2 players averaging 20+ ppg.

I'd be happy with VC getting 20 ppg and 5 other guys in the 10-16 ppg range... plus better defense.

YA... if VC can avg 20+ ppg that would be great... but i do expect a better avg from harris and Yi...

i think VC, harris, and Yi will be our 3 scoring options with solid help from cdr, lopez, and anderson

If Bobby Simmons is fully recovered, he'll be a solid player. Simmons is a very good midrange shooter and defender with a nice work ethic. He may not be the same level player, but IMHO he is a better complement to Vince Carter than Jefferson was. I would expect him to earn the starting small forward spot and play big minutes if he's healthy.

I loved RJ, but the truth is he was a replaceable player whose time here ran out. This is not a bad return for him at all.

I remember him when he was MIP and he was decent. I also know the type of injuries he has does take more than a year to come back from, remember Kittles, Mcdycess, and others. But i am concerned with the planter ficietis(sp), that can linger with basketball players. Ronnie Skylie comes to mind.

Give the guy a chance he does seem to be a hard worker and a come back kid. If he has the desire he will play and play hard. Can't ask for much more. If his injuries linger then he'd have to retire thus giving the nets more cap relief.

I'm willing to give the guy a chance, and i like the trade
