I worked 5+ years in the private sector sandwiched between 2 public sector stints. The private sector most certainly DOES pay more in most instances, plus they can and do offer bonuses and other perks the public sector mostly can’t. I had a couple of opportunities to go back to the private sector for much better money but I stayed where I was mainly because of the retirement (I may be dumb but I’m not stupid). At the end of the day it’s mostly a trade off based on personal priorities.

Yeah, they pay at least a whopping $15/hr. which, adjusted for inflation, is about the same as it was in 1965. Of course, this is extravagant in LaPine where people don't even need to buy tooth picks which they can sliver off the nearest tree. Gomer, down at the local gas station, don't need much to get by. He's got his bamboo fishing pole and lots of catfish to catch for dinner.
