RicBucher: Prob nothing but: couple sources say Ariza is wavering on commitment to Rockets. Hou says it's not true. Ariza's agent not returning calls.

Re: Ariza getton cold feet?

meh, don't want him....figures the blazers may throw more money at him?

Re: Ariza getton cold feet?

I would be ecstatic if we could sign Ariza. Do it Pritch!

uggh. please don't.

contract year player with a good run in the playoffs due to the intricacies of the triangle. he would be a combo of TROUT and Batum into one player.

Not sure why people are infatuated with Ariza... really brings us nothing we don't already have.

So, where's Ariza headed if not to the Rockets? Cleveland?

I'll take Batum over him anyday!

Yes...in 3 years or so.

Ariza would be a big step up for a lower price than Hedo.

I think I would honestly rather have Batum then Ariza now, with the way our team is set up.

The choice isn't Ariza or Batum. It's Ariza or Outlaw. Just like having Oden/Pryzbilla or Roy/Fernandez, there's no reason we can't go two deep at the 3. Ariza is a terrific defender. His shooting was not just a hot streak. Not for approx. 25 games in a pressure-packed month. He provides experience and toughness. When, if, Batum becomes the greater player, roles can be reversed.

Lastly, Ariza's yet another valuable asset to help the team build for the future.

Ariza has a more polished offensive game that we need at the starting SF spot. Batum is clearly ready on the defensive end, but is as raw as it gets on offense. I'd like to see Batum off the bench for another couple seasons to work on his mid-range shooting and slashing.

Ding - ding - ding! We have a winner!

Signing a SF isn't a statement on Batum (other than the obvious fact he is very young). It is a statement that the team thinks they can do better than Outlaw/ Webster.

Outlaw plays the 4 mostly off of the bench, and will play even more 4 in the future according to team sources in the media. So it's Batum/Ariza/Webster. As, if Batum becomes the greater player, which I believe he's already close to being, why pay Ariza starter money?

That may have been the plan, but as has been reported, Webster still isn't able to even jog, let alone play basketball. Unless the team fully commits to going small (with Roy at the 3), Trout will still be getting plenty of minutes at SF.

I can see why the team *wants* him playing the 4. Even though he isn't a great rebounder, he is a nightmare match-up for many PFs to defend.

A big step up?! lol

Batum is better than Ariza, right now.

He's not better than Ariza now, but I agree that Ariza is not a big step up. Ariza is a bit better now, but I think Batum will surpass him in a season or two.

Of course, there's no harm having two good small forwards. Once Batum surpasses him, Ariza will make a good reserve who allows for various line-up combinations.

Hey, Ariza can improve too, he's pretty young as well. Don't just assume Batum can pass him in a few years.

I hope Batum passes him someday, but I'm not holding my breath

He can improve and probably will. But Batum is 3 years younger, so has more development left (unless he or Ariza are unusual) and the difference between them is not that large.

2008-9 FG% FT% 3% TS%
NB - 0.446 81% 37% 56%
TA - 0.460 71% 31% 54%

Trevor was in his 4th year, Nic in his 1st... not exactly the sort of offensive polish that jumps out at me

Except that Ariza is good enough to be on the floor in crunch time. Batum is too much of an offensive liability to be at this point.

remind me of the Lakers other crunch time SF options... he was in there largely by default.

Batum won't be a rookie next year.

We don't know if Nico was good enough to be on the floor at crunch time. We know that Nate trusted Travis more. Just sayin'...

yeah but at times Nic also proved that he didnt deserve to be in there for more than 6 minutes in a 3rd quarter.. why would he be deserving of crunch time minutes?

Because he's Nicolas Batum, that's why, untradeble piece of the big four. How can you be so stupid as to question him?

And at times he showed himself to be the team's best defender with a great stroke and handles. It's called a being a rookie. What's your point?
