COBOL vs BAL...who you got!

Made a lot of money because of Cobol around the Y2K time. But I don't like it.

I even wrote a compiler from a higher-level language into Cobol around that time that we sold - so unfortunately, for a while there, I really knew my way around Cobol. (Our software had a UX element that created programs in our language - and we would translate it to Cobol for Mainframes, C++ for Unix, A combination of stuff with Javascript for PCs). I wrote a lot of compilers in those days.

Glad these days are over.

If there isn't any violence involved then who the fuck cares if someone had some card games where a lot of money was exchanged? Now if there were lines of credit extended and people either got hurt or died if they didn't pay them back then I would say the people in charge of that criminal organization should be prosecuted but there is no mention of anything like that in this story.

The "45million" contract offer from GS is a team option on year two so only $21 million guaranteed.

If I'm Kuminga I hold out for a bigger deal and if the warriors wont agree to it then I just sign the QO. Would get a no trade clause and can sign a much bigger deal as a UFA next summer.

I was kind of surprised the Nets didn't try to make a big offer. Seems like they could easily get $20 mil cap room and then offer 4 year deal with player option on final season that puts the Warriors just into the 2nd apron. Force the warriors to match.
SO 21 guaranteed or his QO offer of like 8? If they're not likely to accept the 24 anyways, then either way he's a free agent next season. If he takes the Q.O. and isn't in the rotation at all, he's likely not making up that money.

I can agree with this in hindsight but at the time it wasn't a terrible trade for them to make. Obviously after the blown Achilles it's terrible for the team but it wasn't ill conceived like trading Luka for AD and one FRP.

Very interesting video about what possibilities a spaced defense open up. Especially interesting about how Deni was described as a Giannis copy-cat:

I just don't think he's that good.

This is worth 38 million per year?

Which player would you rather have?

I don't think it's a bad contract.

Bridges is an impactful 2-way player. Next season he'll be ~45-50th highest paid player in the league. That feels about right IMO. That's right there with what Bane, Sengun, and Brunson are making.

I'd much rather have Bridges on my team making $37M/yr than any of these guys (on their current contracts):
+ Grant
+ Ingram
+ MPJ
+ Lauri
+ Trae Young
+ Siakam
+ LaVine
+ PG13
+ KAT

Having watch a lot of BOTH Grant and Bridges -> I would take Bridges 10/10 times.
I love players that play with heart (like Bridges and Hart).

I just think it's ironic how people consider Grant's contract SO bad.... and yet if you look at his stats from two seasons ago, he played arguably better than Bridges. The main difference is age.

Siakam shouldn't be on this list. He handily outplayed Bridges and beat him, was a key to them almost winning the finals, and won a title before.

Although I'm good with your overall point, agree with the other players, and good with the Bridges extension. That's just the cost of a top level 3+D player.

Bridges main value is on defense, he's an iron man, he's more efficient.

I don't think he's comparable at all to the value of Grant.

The Knicks probably overpaid giving up the 5 FRP in trade for Bridges.

While I think his contract is fine it's certainly not a good value deal like Deni or Camara.

Bridges also had a bit of a disappointing year in NY. I think he's still fine on that contract. But some people were probably hoping for better performance so I can understand having some hesitation on the deal.

They're both role players dude.

14 PER is not a star.
Is Cam Thomas a star because he jacks shots?

Bridges is an elite two way player. He's better than anyone on the Blazers and many other teams. He played with two ball dominant players in Brunson and Towns. Might argue he's better than either with his defense.

The contract is fine. If NY didn't pay him he'd get the max elsewhere in the summer.

Bridges is a role player -> excelling at his role.

Grant is a role player masquerading as a #1 option. Last season when they tried to move him into a role player spot -> his game went to hell.

I would say 18 PER is not a star either, for the most part.

Looked up Siakam actually - last year he signed a 4 year $189 million deal. So quite a bit more than Bridges - as well as when the cap is lower.

Thats the other thing - Grant contract started two years ago when the cap was lower. Bridges deal starts after next season when the cap is much higher. So they're not as comparable as would initially appear.
