Fuck Clay Bennett. Literally STOLE this team! Hijacked it!
It was the Politicians in Seattle that let it go, they did step up. They had lots of opportunity to commit and called Sterns bluff.

Well I rooted for the Pacers so there's the jinx. Sucks Haliburton was on such a heater to start this game and in the first qtr...pop goes the Achilles! Some great defense but without Haliburton, Indy's offense was pretty anemic.

You and me both

Some of the most talent accumulated teams we have had in the last 20 years. I wish we would have kept him around to see what more he could do. He was inarguably better than Neil.
No doubt. KP was definitely better than Neil.

St.Louis and New Orleans are pretty bad. Ok to visit but long term for me, nope.

I didn’t put NOLA on my list, because it is one of my favorite cities in the country. Definitely don’t want to be there longer than 3 days though, and would never live there. But there are some very special locations to visit and so much culture.

Which cities would I LEAST want to live in….. in no particular order……

Detroit

Definitely don’t circle those on my calendar.
Old news - Detroit is HOPPING. Or so I, a man in his 50s who never goes out, am given to understand.

But the DIA and the Henry Ford Museum are pretty cool.

I have visited it in April and November and nearly died of heatstroke both times. God alone knows what it's like right now. Of course, it's in the 90s and 100% humidity in Flint right now, so...

Yeah, used to go there couple times a year had some good times and food is fabulous. Bourbon street is good to experience at least once, but its pretty raunchy. My first trip there I saw people laying in the streets and couldn't tell if they were dead or alive. My visits were pre beads and beads galore.

So many Achilles injuries in recent years, its basically the most devastating basketball injury a player can have. It used to be just a few per decade throughout the NBA - now we had 3 to stars in just this years playoffs.

Dame and Haliburton both had calf strains they tried to play through. Dejounte Murray snapped this year. Durant's back in 2019 was also a calf injury he tried to play through. I remember Wes Matthews had some type of calf/Achilles soreness he had been playing through for weeks. Can't remember if there was anything else with Rodney Hood. Kobe was playing the largest workload of his career when his snapped.

Seems like the NBA really needs to research better what is contributing to this increase. Brutal that so many stars - and a number even in their 20s - are having this. I've always thought it was crazy the NBA plays back to backs at all with the increased physical demands of the league compared to 30 years ago. Maybe its not back to backs and just more from players trying to play through injuries - I don't know.

Just really sucks we're robbed of Dame/Tatum/Haliburton seasons this year and all of next year. Most players are never the same. These were stars on 3 key playoff teams.

Add me to your list of players who was playing through a calf issue before his Achilles ruptured! (It’s OK, it’s been 14 years and I’m still playing. In 2 years I’ll get to play elite old man ball in the Y 50+ league)
Did you play for the Beavs?

Not sure if it was mentioned but does Halliburton’s injury open the door for possible Simon’s trade? Simon’s would give them a guard to bridge time frame of Hali’s injury while Simon would be in his last year of contract. Obviously a Pritchard connection to so they know what they have with Simon.

Haha, oh I wish! By player I only meant baller. Lifetime rec ball player. I was a Beav though (first as a student in the 90s, then as staff in 2019-2021 - loved the noon pickup games). And a Duck. I ruptured my Achilles playing noon ball at NC State.

Yeah Dame was only staring at the possibility of his career being over. That’s nothing compared to the emotions of a game 7 in the finals, right?
Seriously though, you're right. Tatum and Haliburton will very likely get back to where they were before this terrible injury but Dame will be lucky to get back to a point where he's playable. I honestly think both Haliburton and Tatum's best ball is ahead of them and the most likely outcome for Dame's injury is a number of setbacks followed by a medical retirement.

I don't see any medical retirement. I mean Dame's the same age Kobe was. I think Dame's days as a highly effective NBA player are over. But I'd think he can get on the court for a number of years like Kobe did.

I think shortening the season is a pipe dream. I doubt we see the games shortened but maybe we do and with it adopt all of the FIBA rules. I don't think 40 minute games fix this problem though because I think our most competitive superstars would start to try and play every competitive minute of every game.

Maybe it just takes an adjustment to the minutes guys play... not a rule change but a culture change where 32 minutes is a lot and we see rotations of 11 or 12 guys all logging 20 or more minutes, instead of 8 to 1o man rotations we're used to.

Seems to me like medical staff need to get a better handle on symptoms leading up to Achilles ruptures. In the cases of Dame and Haliburton, both guys had been trying to play through what they perceived to be calf strains, but ended up with Achilles ruptures. If they can learn to recognize the symptoms of these types of more serious injuries and find ways to diagnose them with better imaging, maybe they can shut some of these guys down before a major tear occurs.

I've always wanted to see something where free throws were speed up. The Gleague had some idea of 1 FT for either 1/2/3 points. Not sure I like that - but just something so we don't have all these stoppages of play. Way more exciting when the game quickly flows back and forth. Guys would get really tired and would need to have more breaks too.

Yeah - Wes was playing through injuries when he ruptured his - Durant too. Certainly seems like there could be a better way to prevent this.

People also underappreciate how physical and intense the game has become today. Guys are lanky and thin so it's just doesn't seem as physically intense to fans as the old school muscular PF types. But its way more active now, nearly every player has to be guarded out to the 3pt line. It's nothing like the 80s/90s where guys were resting on D, and pounding the ball for 24 second every offensive rebound.

I think if we all need to be a little more honest about Dame specifically, the writing was on the wall. There were articles where writers were openly worrying about him rupturing his Achilles coming off of that strain and then the prolonged time out with the blood clot and his very quick come back from it. Hali was shocking but shouldn't have been either.

You're right, these medical staffs have to be more on top of this shit or maybe the players are getting good advice, not taking it and they're the ones who need to wake up. It's a perplexing situation but I hope these three very high profile post season injuries are enough of a wakeup call to see less of these devastating injuries. Hopefully it doesn't have to get worse before it gets better.

Dude if you listen to that video from Austin Rivers, I don't think an adjustment like that would make these dudes like Dame, Hali and Tatum who have insane cardio any safer. It has to be less PT to cut down on wear and tear. I don't think cutting down on stoppages in the game would do it... but it does have me wondering and confused, so who knows maybe you are onto something.

One thing I’ve wondered about relative to Dame’s injury is whether the insane jump he made to block Siakim’s shot had any impact on his Achilles finally letting go.
