Davis and Aminu weren't trash-heap level signings like Tyreke Evans was last year or James Johnson was the year before. Those guys were basically minimum level signings that got signed far after most free agents signed.
Aminu was literally the 1st guy that was reported signed a couple minutes after midnight on the first day they were able to talk to him. So no, he wasn't signed after most free agents signed. Tyreke wasn't a trash heap guy either. Teams just ran out of money so he took a one year prove it deal. The same thing is going to happen this summer to a lot of decent free agents.

I think he was saying it as Tyreke and Johnson who were signed after everyone else. It was confusing the way he said it.

Cmon Kingspeed, at least read the couple of posts before... This is what I said originally.
Should've said trades/free agent signings. I was basically saying that Olshey is able to acquire undervalued, underrated young guys and turn them into good players, but for some reason, he's unable to do it with veterans (RoLo being the exception).
One thing you aren't factoring in is that the last two years it's been obvious that the goal after slow starts was to get under the luxury tax. Signing a veteran, even at the minimum, would have made it very difficult to accomplish that. You are also forgetting Mo Williams who was a fantastic value signing for cheap after the frenzy of free agency had died down. He played really well for us that season.

Celtics had 4 players with 20+ points and another player with 19. How often does that happen?

Yeah, I went back and reread it and I think you're right.

Another thing to add though is that Bones is mentioning guys with character concerns and that just isn't going to be something we do (and I like that we don't). James Johnson was accused of choking and hitting his wife back in 2014. That is why he was available for the minimum a couple years ago. Mike Scott got arrested for felony drug charges last season. The charges were dropped and the arresting officer was fired so the circumstances seem shady but it doesn't change the fact that his name was associated with it.

I was wondering about their character as well. We won't ever sign people like that.

You make a different move to get under then. Idk.. Not acquiring a great player on a bargain contract because your worried about the tax makes for a loser framchise.

"Accused".. "Shady".. do the research and make a good decision.

We don't go near those players anymore. If you just want talent regardless of character, you would've enjoyed our team back when you were a toddler. I know I did.

Somebody wrongfully accused on drug changes isn't really a risk. James Johnson had a bad error in judgement and I don't hear people ever say he's a bad person, and he's not a repeat offender.

That doesn't compare to the Jail Blazers era. Those guys were bad people who consistently made bad mistakes.

They weren't bad people. Hardly any of them were ever in jail or convicted of a crime. We're not going there anymore th0ugh. A lot of stupid mistakes and guilt by association.

I can't agree with you about James Johnson, Bones. While he has stayed out of trouble since these days I'd stay away from players who have committed domestic violence.

OT: Fuck Reuben Foster! Why do athletes that have the chance of a lifetime throw it all away and do stupid shit? The 49ers need to cut his ass a year after wasting a 1st round pick on him. (Okay mini rant over)

As for Scott, I understand the situation seemed messed up but you don't know if they did look into his background or not. So you can't say they whether they did or didn't do research on him. For all we know they looked into both players and deemed them guys they don't want on this team.

Not signing a vet to a minimum contract doesn't make this a loser franchise. That is a big stretch. Signing a vet either of the last two years would have ruined a lot of flexibility with having an open roster spot and trying to get under the tax. I'm sure if the right vet came along they would sign them. Being financially responsible for two years knowing that you are about to pay a shit ton of tax starting next year is tough for fans to take but that doesn't mean it wasn't the right decision. Lets see if they make moves this summer that are different than the recent cost cutting moves.

It's not like Olshey would-be signed them if they didn't get into trouble and that's my whole point.

So my husband's team is Cleveland and my team is Portland. Both our teams blew HCA. Fuck us.

Indiana is for real. Good for Nate. Alright, off to OKC. GO UTAH.

I have a man crush on Victor Oladipo. He has the perfect demeanor on and off the court.
I'd love it if he were a Blazer, but I know it's never gonna happen.

You are just making stuff up to prove your point. Lets just stick to the facts.

Year 1-Signed Ronnie Price (Not a good player but a vet min guy he signed)
Year 2-Signed Dorrell Wright, Earl Watson, and Mo Williams (Literally 3 vet trash heap guys)
He also signed Steve Blake and Chris Kaman to exceptions one of the years we didn't have cap space.

The year Aldridge left it made sense to go young not bring in vets. The next two years we have fought staying under the tax line (which 100% would be an order from above).

I'm not sure how you can say he doesn't or isn't willing to sign vet min type guys.
