Around the NBA 2022 Playoffs: The Thread

The problem isn’t necessarily Gobert. But it’s the fact that last year against the clippers, they literally played him off the court. If you’re paying someone 40 million and they can “get played off the court” that’s a massive, massive issue and partially why I’ve been against Ben Simmons. That’s also why the Draymond Green reference earlier doesn’t make sense. You can’t play Draymond off the court AND Draymond makes much less than Rudy. And even if you could play Draymond off the court, since he makes much less than Rudy they’ve been able to spend money elsewhere. So the problem is Rudy’s only really to matchup with traditional lineups (easily countered by going small w/speed) AND he makes way too much money.
Getting "played off the court" might have as much to do with your coach as you. But yes, his offense is certainly not his strong point. But "you can't play Draymond off the court"? Again, ANYONE can stay on the court if he's surrounded by THREE elite scorers.

FWIW this is EPM ("estimated plus/minus") which won a poll as best advanced stat. As you can see, Gobert has the #10 rank of all NBA players.

You can’t play Draymond off the court because he can guard anyone, has nothing to do with who he is playing with.
I.e. Draymond can guard Rudy, Rudy can’t guard Draymond. Well, technically he can… but the Warriors will get out and run and the warriors also are one of the teams that exposed the drop scheme of the Jazz with Rudy.

I really don’t care about EPM. Show me Rudy’s EPM in the playoffs when teams go small. And only a couple teams have the ability to actually do it, hence why they do well during the regular season.

Anyway, I also said Rudy isn’t necessarily the issue. The issue is that he makes a TON of money AND can be played out of the game.

It would be amazing if both Griffin and LMA go back to the Clippers and Blazers for a min to end their career.

Would you offer money to Lavine next season after a knee surgery?

CJ is shooting 42/109 from the field this series for 38.5%. Typical CJ playoff showing.
Typical playoff showing? Not true. CJ’s career playoff percentages are 43.4% from field and 38% from 3.

in his last 20 playoff games, CJ is 41.6% on FG's and 35.1% on three's

more revealing is his TS%. In his career, his TS% is .553. But in his last 4 playoffs (those 20 games), his TS% has been:

.481
.534
.518
.488

making it worse is he hasn't stopped shooting. He's averaged over 20 shots a game in that stretch. That doesn't count that play-in game against the Clippers; he scored 19 points on 24 shots and had a TS% of .386. It's like he poured out all the good playoff BB he had in that game 7 against the Nuggets

Even on a minimum contract?
I would take Aldridge for sure. We need a good backup center. I watched the end of one Brooklyn game and Aldridge saved the day. He was the only one who was making shots for the Nets.

Poole having a bad game but here comes Payton.

Might the Nuggets look different next season or do they roll with Murray and Joker again?

I'm starting to feel sorry for Joker. The way his supporting cast keeps coming up short is starting to remind me of Dame's situation.

Agreed

Man, he literally sat on the bench the entire series. While they got swept!

I’d absolutely take him on a minimum contract. Find out how much hes willing to play. People holding on to bitterness because he left would be foolish not to welcome him back on a minimum contract.

He’d actually be a great addition to this roster IMO

I figure most people who say they would hate it would also be miraculously fine with it once he’s here.

Your post supports my point. 38.5% FG shooting isn’t typical playoff CJ.

Really not interested in him. We don’t really need a backup Center that sucks defensively, is immobile, but can kinda shoot the ball.

We need defensive minded players, in my opinion that can defend the rim, run the PnR, rebound. Not Aldridge.

Who also has injury/hip issues.

What happened to Harden? Looks like an old man out there.
He's getting older, his joints have to take a lot of stress due to play style and excess mass, and he treats his body like shit by living the party all the time lifestyle.

Pels will be hard to beat come next season. Can’t believe we gave up on Nance.

they've been beaten 17 times in the 35 games since the trade. 18-17 doesn't look unbeatable

and in his first 3 seasons, Zion has played in exactly 4 more games than Greg Oden did in his first 3 seasons.
