probably close to true, although the wild card is not knowing exactly how Indiana's front office was evaluating Oladipo and Sabonis. The Pacers have seemed to place a higher than normal priority on defense, and that was an Oladipo strength. And Sabonis had just finished his rookie season so 3 years were left on his rookie deal. It might be that Indiana thought a lot more highly of the pair than the rest of NBA punditry
I just think how much better Portland would be right now with Dame-PG13-Nurkic as the big-3 than with Dame-CJ-Nurk; it's not a close call. Paul George would fit perfectly and the mesh between him and Dame would be quite a bit better than him and Westbrook, IMO. And PG13/Nurk would be a lot better than CJ/Nurk. And that's true even with Zach being a casualty of the trade.
for the 'it's-a-perfect-world-fun' (and agony), assume CJ + 15th pick + future protected 1st for PG13. Blazers use 20 + 26 on Kuzma and Josh Hart; or on Jarrett Allen and Kuzma. After all, in this perfect world, in order to do the CJ trade we'd have a different GM and he wouldn't have sat on his hands afterward...he would have secured Portland a functional SG!
