Around the NBA - July 2017 Edition

I'm just tired of the NBA. It has to be the most unbalanced, unfair, leagues of haves and have-nots of all the pro sports. And I honestly can't think of a way to fix it.
Well, with our Big3, we're one of the haves, you know.

The Blazers still seem to have been a great investment for him. In terms of smaller markets we are one of the most valuable. That starts to go down hill for him the longer he pays the luxury tax.

His money gives us a buffer we really need. Crabbe, Turner, and Leonard were rolls of the dice but we wouldn't have been allowed to make then if it wasn't for Allen. They may not have been major signings but Turner and Crabbe still helped us make the playoffs. Imagine if we had Sacramento's owner? A third rate garbage franchise couldn't survive here for more than a couple of decades.

Maybe I'm an intoxicated homer but it sure seems like a lot of people are underestimating our roster when healthy. We have three very good players and a lot decent role players. I'm personally hoping for a change or two but since I'm kind of high on the two rookies, I like it (cap situation aside):

I don't know the depth chart but something like this:

Lillard
CJ
Harkless
Vonleh
Nurk

And a rotation of something like this:

PG: Napier
SG: Crabbe
SF: Turner/Aminu
PF: Collins/Swanigan
C: Ed Davis

At point guard, I was pleasantly surprised how good Napier (25) looked when given the chance. Dame or CJ are pretty much always in the game anyway.

At SG and SF you've got 4 guys who are decent role players and can make a difference on a given night in Harkless (24), Crabbe (25), Turner (28) and Aminu (26).

At PF and C, along with Nurk (the 22 year old guy who wasn't in game shape or familiar with the offense as he averaged 15.3 and 10.5 with 1.9 blks, 1.2 steals, and 3.3 apg), we've got Ed Davis, Vonleh, Swanigan and Collins. Davis has proven to be a decent backup when healthy. I know potential is a bad word but between Vonleh (21), Swanigan (20) & Collins (19) I think at least one will be a solid rotation player next season. But if Vonleh & Swanigan and Collins all aren't cutting it, then we can try to trade for a proven PF at the trade line.

Funny you make no mention of Meyers... Great write up though!

Well it looks like that idiot who thinks Dame will request to be traded was dead wrong about Curry. Curry signed with the dubs for 201M, not the Hornets as they predicted...

200 mill?! Mr Brady, how much are those SB rings really worth bro? Because right now, you look REALLY REALLY REALLY underpaid. :smiley-laugh::smiley-laugh::smiley-laugh:

I love the game and the league. I just hope we can act be like the Jeffersons and get a piece of that pie.

Goes to show how successful the league has been at growing its brand. Brady would make much more if there weren't 12 players on the field at a time. If you do the math differentiating the amount of players on an NBA team compared to NFL I would be willing to bet Brady's salary comes close to currys.

I'm convinced we win 2 games in playoffs last year if Nurk was healthy. It's still first round exit but better than any other team.
I agree, and with an entire season of him we should be in a better position to go deeper in the playoffs.

He makes nothing compared to guys like Flacco, Carr and Wilson. And he defers most of that salary or has special clauses written in so the team is in better cap situation. Kraft contracts companies Brady has a stake in so that he gets a pay off. It's a way of getting around the rules. But since when have the Patriots been interested in those?

I don't even care about the big free agents. I just want to sign a nice role player and get rid of Meyers and/or Davis and one of Aminu/Harkless. We should've gotten rid of them at the deadline but didn't for whatever reason. I get Meyers but the rest shouldn't be hard to move. Get rid of this goddamn clutter. It's long overdue.

Add me to the group who's still optimistic about next year even w/o any major moves this offseason.

An offseason w/Nurkic could be huge and Collins and Swanigan have a chance to be instant upgrades over Vonleh and Leonard. I've been watching tons of both the last few days and we might have something pretty special with both of those guys.

Then you have Dame and CJ who I trust to continue to improve.

Harkless could also make another modest jump, Crabbe played better the 2nd half of the year and has chance to have a mini bounce back w/hopefully increased aggressiveness plus more disciplined defense and while I still think Turner is an awkward fit, maybe he improves in the 2nd year on a new team much like he did in Boston.

There's still a lot to get excited about w/ this team imo.

Jrue Holiday gets 126 for 5 years!!

Signing Turner was insane, but signing Jrue for 25 Miliion per year is beyond insane! This is batshit crazy!

Edit: and Patty gets only 50M/4 to stay with the Spurs. Mills had the same numbers as Jrue per36 minutes.

I just don't get it...why would Mills leave so much money on the table??

Curry and GS agree on richest contract in history.....201 million.

So much for takingva bit less for the team

Who? Remember the guys you want have to want to sign with us? Keep in mind Chandler Parsons and Spencer Hawks wouldn't even sign with us.
Well, my original comment is that we'd could have enough to be in the running for Igoudala, and I'd say 20 mil would be enough to be in the running for him.

All 30 NBA coaches would disagree with you. Even Kerr said his goal in playoffs was to "stop guys like Aminu from going off" and then he still went off. Also, Aminu personally won 2 games for us in 2016 playoffs by draining a high percentage of shots that were being conceded to him. You need guys like that in playoffs who will step and hit shots when your starters are being shut down.

@KingSpeed .... @BonesJones
I get what Kerr SAID, but there is also what he DID. He left Aminu wide open....practically had his team run away from him to guard other players and let him shoot. It was like what the Clippers did to Plumlee the year before. They had Jordon leave him completely alone. You would hope they would put up some numbers when there is absolutely no one guarding them for 90% of the game.

That doesn't mean they are very good. It means the other team's game plan thought so little of them that they gave them every opportunity possible. That those players put up some number under those circumstances isn't really impressive. Fair enough?

Aminu is absolute garbage
This is just not true....by a long stretch...you don't like his game, fine...but he's a great defensive player whether you recognize it or not...for all your draft knowledge BJ....you are out to lunch on your Aminu bashing...he's not an overrated defender at all...

On one end of the court Aminu is fine. On the other end he is not. It's pretty simple.
