So Hashim Thabeet just got sent from OKC to Philly where he's getting waived. Philly is tanking hard this season. Just thinking about Thabeet makes me feel so good about our bench now.
 
I think it's kind of ridiculous to crown most NBA players as future HOF locks. Never know when one will go all Lamar Odom on you

They tanked just as hard last season. I'v never seen a team use such a blatant tanking strategy, teams usually try and disguise it a bit but Philly has just said "fuck it were tanking and were going to be really really bad and there is nothing you guys can do about it".
 
I'm starting to think that the Wolves are going to be very interesting this year, and potentially very good within a couple years.

Rubio/Lavine/Barea/Mo
Wiggins/Martin/Robinson III
Budinger/Brewer/Muhammad
Young/Bennett/Cunningham
Pekovic/Dieng/Turiaf

They have a lot of interchangeable parts at the 2/3, a lot of highly-touted youth, but also 9 veterans between the ages of 26-31. If Flip does a decent job, he should be able to throw out a lot of different looks this season, and might be a lot better than many are projecting.

I also think they got the best return in trade for an all-NBA player that we've seen in decades.
 
Maybe i'm crazy, but i just don't see it outside of Wiggins. Pek is already in his late 20s i think, so he'll be like Kaman's age by the time that team is ready to compete, Young is probably going to bolt after his contract is up, and outside of Wiggins like i said, Dieng, and maybe LaVine depending on how he does, i'm not that impressed with their young talent.
 
Wolves are as raw as a team could be this season. Great talent but is Flip the guy to get them to gell? I think they need a coaching upgrade personally. The guys returning are raw as well seeing as Kevin Love always had the ball. Flip has his work cut out for him but does he deliver? I don't think so

IMO, Flip Saunders is a pretty good offensive coach. At least, he did some nice things with motion offense in his first stint with Minnesota. He's not a great coach, but he has a perfectly reasonable chance of getting a lot out of the players he has now (assuming wearing the dual hat of coach/GM doesn't dilute his focus, which it might).

I know, but they're all on the roster at the moment. I didn't want to speculate as to which one of them would get waived. Turiaf would be the cheapest one, but then they would be short on bigs. Honestly, Mo seems to me to be the piece that doesn't fit.

if they are out of it at the trade deadline they have some decent vet pieces to move for picks also (kmart, brewer, mo, jj, pek maybe?)

That makes sense. It would be HILARIOUS if Mo got cut.

They've also got Robbie Hummel under contract, so they actually have 17. I HAVE assume that they'll make another deal before the start of the season.
 
They have been trying to give away Barea for a while. He just makes too much money at 4.5
 
im sure philly would take him for a future 2nd, they just took thabeet for nothing
 
Barbosa signed with GS..this is a guy who last played for less than a million. I really wanted him to back up Nico..GS got a steal with him
 
Philly is gonna be a defensive stalwart in a couple years. MCW, Wroten, Mbah Moute, Noel, Embiid... They also have Saric coming over in a couple years so that's a potentially good scorer.

They made a major bet on Noel and then doubled down with Embiid. There's so, so much boom and bust potential there. If they both pan out, they'll really have a great foundation. If they both turn out to be injury busts, that's going to be one sad franchise.

I like it, though. I'm very much aligned with the "nothing ventured, nothing gained" philosophy of team building.
 
I think the idea is that if they hit on their next high lotto pick only one of those two needs to pan out.

I really hope Noel stays healthy because he's awesome. Anyone who can lead even a summer league in BOTH blocks and steals is a special defensive player. I don't think he's a center (but that's okay, they've got Embiid) but he's like a rich man's Andrei Kirilenko.

That's very Hakeem Olajuwon-like. Which is funny, since Embiid is also compared to Olajuwon. Imagine two Hakeem Olajuwons in the same front court.

Be it as it may, I kind of hope Wiggins pans out - I like the way he handled the mess and just to see the Cavs really regret that trade in years to come.
 
Miroslav Raduljica got waived after the Clippers got him in return for dumping Jared Dudley's contract on the Bucks. Sounds vaguely intriguing. Worth keeping an eye out for if watching Serbia in FIBA 2014.
