Guess baseball didn't pan out for TMac...he should go play with Vince min Memphis

Wright is capable of playing at a much higher level than he did last season.

I agree, but idk if he fits well with the team. He is the type of player that needs at least 20 minutes a game to be effective. I rather have a player that has shown the ability to take over a game (even if he's older).

I think CJ is that guy who can take over a game from the bench, if not now, then soon.

I think Dwright needs to get his head into the fact he might only get 3 shots a night if he's lucky, and to make them count. He's definitely a better shooter than he showed last season.

I also don't think that VC or McGrady are capable of taking over games anymore. VC maybe 1/82 games...

Greg Monroe QO... Trade Dwright and Claver, Detroit isn't getting shit because Monroe can deny any trade he wants to. Detroit would be wise to get some expiring contracts for him.

Then again this is a product of Dumars being bad, so I'm sure he will end up walking next year with Det getting nothing.

Edit: he doesn't retain his bird rights if traded, so I don't think this would work?

Not disagreeing, but curious...why would they want to get expiring contracts if he's already a big expiring contract?

Seems like if they wanted to trade him for something, they'd try to at least get someone who could maybe help their team if they were able to re-sign the incoming player, and I don't see Wright or Claver being viewed as that type of a player from other teams around the league.

You know I didn't even think of that, great point! I guess there is no way Detroit is going to get anything out of Monroe. Unless some one wants to be dumb and give some one valuable for him. There's no way Detroit trades him for equal expiring contracts, might as well chance it. If SVG is successful he might want to stay there.

And yes Detroit wants something out of him, but given the situation I don't see anyone giving someone decent up for him. Maybe a slight upgrade to a contender, but he's not going to attract anyone near his value.

Monroe signing the QO basically ensures he's with Detroit for the whole season, I would think, because of a combination of two factors:
1. He can veto any trade
2. If he gets traded, he loses his bird rights, so has incentive to veto EVERY trade.

The only trade he might agree to is one to a team that is guaranteed to have a lot of cap space, but even then, why not just wait and that team can bid for his services next year anyway, but with competition from Detroit, which would still have his bird rights. Much better to stay with Detroit and leave via sign-and-trade.

That's dead on. Monroe will stay a Piston this season. I would say staying a Piston would be about 40%. The only chance is if they make the playoffs and then that increases to about 60-70%. Even then, it's not a guarantee.

See I bet it's 50/50 if they make the playoffs, 10% if they don't.

I think Van Gundy will improve the Pistons. They are going to be a rookie system this season so probably a year or two out of the playoff race but will be better than last year. The east got a lot better.

It's too bad the Blazers couldn't somehow swing Monroe for young guys and expiring contracts.

Monroe coming off the bench would have jumped Blazers into the category of OKC, Clippers and SA, imo.

Do you really think Monroe would be happy to come off the bench?
