A gentleman's sweep
Many of you misunderstand what a gentleman's sweep is.

It specifically refers to a series in which the victor wins the first 3 games, loses the 4th, and then finishes it off in 5 (generally in front of home fans). It is "gentlemanly" because it allowed the loser to salvage some dignity by winning one game, but is still basically a sweep because the series was for all intents and purposes over after the first 3 games.

Any other 4-1 permutation doesn't really qualify. However I've just now discovered that what's happening to us is actually referred to as a backdoor sweep. Seems to me to be a much less desirable characterization.

Thank you @PtldPlatypus for taking the time to explain. The misuse of this term comes up every year and drives me mad, but I don't have the patience to make a post like yours...haha

Wow!

Nate McMillan fired, literally two weeks after agreeing to a contract extension

Ridiculous that Nate can get fired after a superior regular season followed by a playoff debacle, but Stotts remains unquestionably safe.
Nate didn’t have his best player for over a year, still made the playoffs and didn’t have his 2nd best player for the playoffs. Yet Stotts needs a fair chance with a fully healthy roster. SMDH

Look at the press release:

..."including 3-16 in the playoffs."

Okay Backdoor works but a 4-1 in this fashion is a sweep.

Our organization sucks that’s why. They love the bare minimum. That’s why I feel bad for Dame plays for a franchise like this

All these coaches getting fired

Terry may be out after all

If you have a bottom-of-the-barrel team and you want to get them to middle-of-the-pack then Nate is viable choice. What he can't seem to do is get a middling team into the top tier.

Bucks are boycotting their game today, it appears. Magic win by forefit?

holy hell, don't give me nightmares.

I don't care for Terry, but i fucking hated Nate.

Now, D'Antoni on the other hand?

I would bet money that you could go back and find threads of us complaining about Nate not being able to deal with teams trapping BRoy.

If only games got postponed earlier, some head coaches would still have their jobs.

Postponing the Laker-Blazer game is just cruel.

I have to be honest. With the Blazers having no chance I don't really care about the play-offs. I'm rooting against the Lakers, but that's pretty much it.

What I want is the draft, free agency, and trade season. I want the 19-20 season flushed away and some reason to feel optimism (if only briefly) over 20-21.

(sorry, just had to vent!)

I don't recall that ever being an issue. ISO ball was the complaint with Roy, and the ability to defend it better when things slow down in the playoffs.

It was the exact same problem. Nate would bring a big out for Roy to screen above the three point line and the other team would instead trap Brandon. It happened all the time.
