The NBA will completely alter the format of the upcoming All-Star Game, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press reports, resetting the game score to zero after the second and third quarters, to create the equivalent of three “mini-games”.

The winner of each mini-game will be awarded $100,000 for its preassigned Chicago area charity.

In the final quarter, the team’s cumulative points for the first three quarters will be brought back into the fold and there will be a target overall score equal to the cumulative total of the winning team’s score in each of the three “mini-games” plus 24, in honor of Kobe Bryant.

What an absolute crock of shit. David Stern is rolling in his grave.

An event they should add is a long-range shooting contest. Within a certain amount of time, start at the free-throw line then progressively move farther from the hoop when the player hits a shot from each spot. I would just do it in a straight line down the middle of the court. I would definitely tune in to watch that. Lillard would be a favorite to win I would think.

Actually, I'm changing my opinion.

This could actually be compelling if it works. The first and second quarters are usually when the guys coast. This might prevent that. The untimed fourth also could be crazy competitive, cuz it's essentially like 21. There will be at least 3 game winners.

It's all contingent on these guys caring about charity, but I kinda like it.

One change I'm pissed they didn't implement is a 4pt line.

Dock the players on a team a million dollars each if the opposing team's score surpasses 120 in regulation. An All-Star game with some actual defense played would lure me back to watching.

Oh, I'm not surprised that people are pre-judging...I'm just asking why.

Because it sounds ridiculous. Just make the play actual defense in a regular game. That is how you make it interesting.

How do you "make them play defense"?

Money. Winning team gets a bunch of money. Idk.
Exactly--you don't know what will accomplish your desired goal; nor does anyone else. Similarly, we don't know how this funky set of rule changes will affect the game, if it will make it any better or not, so why not give it a chance before assuming it won't be any good?

I never watch anyways but this is completely fucked.
If I understand this correctly, the "4th qtr" should last about two minutes....24pts....what a joke.

I stopped watching as soon as they had LeBron and Curry pick their teams, what a joke. I will watch everything but the All-star game though.

this is dumb. what they should do is west vs. east, the winner gets home court advantage in the finals. then they would have something to play for and might make for an interesting game.

that is dumb.

I find it pretty funny that so many people that "never watch the all-star game" are so upset at this. And you really want them out there playing hard defense? I sure as hell don't. With our luck this year Dame would get knocked down by the Greek freak and crack a rib something. Nah, throw your alley oops, shoot long 3s and take it easy in a game that gets you no closer to a ring if you win.

Is Ant in the dunk contest? I haven't been following the ASG info so I don't know.

Doesnt appear to be. Gotta have Dwight Howard in there again, because his dunks are on par with Zach Lavine and Aaron Gordons dunks from a few years back...
