People Get Ready....

[video=youtube;-tRLRvWUtI4]

Rookie point guard Patty Mills, who is on his first NBA trip, was expected to practice with the Blazers Monday in Dallas in preparation for Tuesday night’s game against the Mavericks. But coach Nate McMillan stopped short of saying he was close to being game-ready.

“I think he’s a ways away from suiting up,” McMillan said before the Blazers played the Heat.

Mills, who fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in July, has been pushing himself harder and harder as he nears the final stages of his rehab. Before each of the last two games, he has worked extensively with assistant coach Bill Bayno on several offensive aspects of his game, revealing quickness to the basket and range on his jumper. He’s done full sprinting, lateral cutting and other foot-testing drills and has not encountered a setback.

After completing a rigorous workout with Bayno before Sunday’s game, Mills sat in the locker room with his right foot resting on a bag of ice.

“I’m feeling good,” he said. “I’m getting close.”

Funny he already talks like a veteran point guard. The whole fact he talked about setting his boys up and then once they were comfortable, starting to look for his own is something vet pg types talk about all the time. Knowing when to look for your shot is important. He already gets that.

He won't be on the court this season, unless there is some big trade.

Which brings up a good point HCP. Why would you keep so many PG, unless you are staging for a trade?

I STILL think the Blazers did the right thing by keeping this guy and cutting Ime, although I wish we had both.

I'm so tired of watching our slow, lumbering offense that if there is even a CHANCE that this guy could help us run more . . .

Very interesting, didn't think of it like that. He is a cool guy, finally met him on the way to Orlando......... talks funny though and carries around a boomerang on his hip! Steve Blake asked to see a picture of my baby and Patty stood up and screamed....... wait for it........."Maybe the Dingo ate yo baby!"

I believe you are correct. Ime is a known quantity. Mills has upside, and he was drafted because Nate knows the problems he was causing high level players in the olympics, players that were very focused on defense at the time. Increasing team speed is a must.

Because they didn't want to waste a potentially useful asset. Mills wasn't going to Europe. It was either we sign him or we lose him. Basically throwing away a second rounder. The Blazers didn't want to do that.

It's not indicative of a point guard trade coming, just like the Blazers deciding to go with Shavlik last year wasn't indicative of a small forward trade coming.

You can't compare one players situation to another, there are completely different roster situations between the years, and completely different scenarios for quality level of the players playing the positions they play. We have been searching for a good SF for Portland for about 6 years now. I would try to keep an extra one on board too just to keep a glimmer of hope of finding a serviceable player to play that position.
