Weren’t you the one on a crusade about hiring a woman? Now they do and it’s a PR move? Talk about a fucking hypocrite.
Yeah, I don't get the complaint that it's a PR move... of course it is but it can also be the right basketball move. You can kill two birds with one stone. As I think you mentioned an end of the bench coach can be just about anyone that brings some kind of expertise or motivation to a team.

this is laughably transparent. hiring someone with 0 experience because she has oregon ties and is a woman.

i mean... come on.

And not sure why you keep targeting me as saying this stuff, yet again. I hardly remember what I say in person two days ago, much less what I posted. How or why you apparently remember what I posted weeks ago is... disturbing.

Also, you're way too angry in here. need to smoke up again or something.

Edniesha Curry on Wikipedia. Got to say, I've seen better-written Wiki entries. Also got to say, nothing in this screams "NBA assistant coach candidate" - I sure hope this isn't partly a PR move as a sop to the people (like me) who wanted Becky Hammon.
I think if people want to see women succeed in the NBA coaching ranks we need to stop the narrative that they're hired for token or political reasons....Chauncey knows who he wants to hire and our front office had a woman in the top 3 for head coach..there's truly no reason to speculate this woman didn't earn the hire on her own merits and was hired because of her gender...I felt like with Hammon it became more about her gender than skillset and that's not how we should approach inclusion...I'm glad to see Chauncey building a staff and trust his ability to attract talent to his team. She has been coaching men in Maine...it's not a new situation for her other than the talent level

Let’s see how blazers fans will get mad about this. I’m so fucking sick of the negativity around everything this team, and specifically Olshey, does. If you knew nothing about the NBA you would think we were the most incompetent team in the league reading the takes some of these “fans” come up with. Just shut up already.

Based on her coaching experience, why do you think this was a 'merit' based hire?
Before this position, she was an assistant coach at a crappy low-level university - that did not have any success on the court.
I don't see how this is a merit based hire at all.

If MDA was coach (with his experience), I wouldn't have any concern with this hire. With Billups being a rookie HC (with only 1 year of coaching experience), he needs an extremely experienced coaching staff.

Before anyone screams about offense or defense and job duties, she is a player development coach at Maine
And the team's record did not see a significant change while she was there.... It's still a crappy team.

I think it was a merit hire because Chauncey is a deep basketball mind and he chose her...I don't know her any more than you do...I just say she got hired by a guy with a hell of an NBA resume...I'm genuinely enjoying seeing who's he's hired so far...I just don't believe it's an affirmative action hire and that Chauncey sees how she fits his team...simple..I didn't know shit about Jim Moran before Stotts hired him either or Nate Tibbetts.on the same train of thought I didn't know where the hell Weber State was when we drafted Dame....

i mean Stoudamire this summer is making the leap from college to the nba assistant coaching rank as well. but he played for 15 yrs in the league and was a head coach in college for a few yrs.

curry could be good, but based on everything our dumbass FO has done and handled this summer, you know exactly why she was hired.

ultimately, she's the third assistant behind a guy with ton of experience, so in reality... who cares...but to think this was anything but an olive branch to the crusaders on blazers twitter is a mistake.

Terry Stotts put a video coordinator/ball boy on his staff, I didn’t hear any complaints then? Actually, that’s how Spoelstra got his start as well. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere. And she wasn’t just a college assistant. She was also in the NBAs assistant coaching program, which specializes in getting people ready to coach in the league.

Don't really understand the reactions in here. As a player development coach I am sure she will be fine. To be honest, I've never heard a bad story about any player development ever in the history of the NBA. Was there some good PR that may have factored into their decision? Sure, but I don't she would be materially better or worse than another maybe more experienced option.

There's two more spots left on the sidelines. I'm looking for those to be more strategic hires.

isn’t it just one? Or is Rogers not a front of the bench guy?

how many assistants do teams have?

we have Brooks/ Rogers/ Curry now i think.

I completely disagree with this for all the reasons I've stated...Chauncey isn't a front office puppet first of all. This is his hire...no matter if folks think there's a Vulcan conspiracy or not..it's Chauncey's complete choice to hire these assistants. I would rather cheer the hire than stain it with hidden agendas...too much of that shit these days...we all need to clear the air around this team for a change.

Apples & Oranges example here.
I agree that everyone needs to start from somewhere, but situation and context matter.

Stotts was an experienced Head Coach with 10+ years experience as an assistant when he did that.
Spoelstra started under NBA Coaching legend Riley. Again, there was a ton of experience there.

We have Billups (who I think was the right hire), but he only has 1 year of being an assistant coach. He needs a bench full of EXPERIENCED coaches to help support him.
Hiring Curry from a crappy low-level University (that did not improve while she was there) - is not what Billups needs to be successful.

it's the 3rd assistant. who cares... really? we had John Yim et al a long ass time and no one really cared.

the people complaining about the people complaining outweigh any genuine bitching about the hire.

you should’ve told yourself that before crying about it and claiming conspiracy. And btw she’s probably not even the third assistant.

Best of luck!
Priorities:
Turn CJ Elleby into Andre Iguodala with a jump shot
Turn Anfernee into Donovan Mitchell
Turn Nas into a more athletic CJ Elleby (after you've improved CJ)
If we still have Harry, convey to him that his job is to be Horace Grant, not the homeless man's Kevin Durant

As someone already pointed out end of the bench coaching hires are unknowns all of the time. She just has to bring one thing that Chauncey likes to be a good hire. Who the fuck is Ryan Forehan-Kelly? Somehow he's on Steve Nash's staff. This is a non-story besides the fact that it checks a second box as a good PR hire.
