Who ends up on the bench with Billups?

I agree that everyone needs to start from somewhere, but situation and context matter.

Stotts was an experienced Head Coach with 10+ years experience as an assistant when he did that.
Spoelstra started under NBA Coaching legend Riley. Again, there was a ton of experience there.

We have Billups (who I think was the right hire), but he only has 1 year of being an assistant coach. He needs a bench full of EXPERIENCED coaches to help support him.
Hiring Curry from a crappy low-level University (that did not improve while she was there) - is not what Billups needs to be successful.

The closest facsimile to Billups in recent memory is Nash in Brooklyn last year.

On his staff, he had MDA/Vaughn who had prior head coaching experience, and Udoka/Ott/Ivey who all had multiple years as assistants. Even with that, there were times when it seemed like Nash was lacking some of the game flow aspects (when to call timeouts, clock management, working the refs, etc etc).

This is why I liked the Brooks hire, but we need at least one more assistant with more experience.

When Kerr first got the head job in golden state he had multiple assistants with zero coaching experience in the NBA on his staff.

heres a thought

blazers hired a woman as an assistant coach due to backlash for not hiring another woman (becky hammon), but also to ease the chauncey billups backlash

to understand me completely, im not saying shes being hired just cause shes a woman (i have no doubt that shes qualified), but it had to be a woman

She isn’t in charge of the Xs and Os so hard to place responsibility on her

and tbh her player development is rather limited due to quality of athlete she receives. Cant turn a turd into a diamond as they say

Why do we have to read so much into everything? Why can't this just be a coach hiring an assistant that he has faith in and wants to hire?
 
Just read up a bit on her, she's impressive...graduated University of Oregon with a BA i sociology...great major for coach...she then went on the get a masters elsewhere, has worked as a global marketing assistant with Adidas...has connections all over the world...I think she's a great hire after reading up on her bio....in Maine they called her Eddie....not sure if it's a long or short "e" vowel sound..anyone know?I'd assume it's short "e" with the two consonants instead of one.

Completely agree.
Got a friend down in the bay area. Total GS fan. We text back and forth all the time during the season. I texted him during game 4 of the finals and asked if he was watching. His answer? "I'm watching the Giant's game! As soon as the Warriors are out so am I. Next up NINERS!"

Portland needs another sport other than Basketball and that game where they kick a ball and flop.
 
not sure how anyone can confidently praise or condemn any of the coaching hires until we see a season or two of results
