Affect is correct.

His contract will only affect us this season. The effects will be at least $11 million in cap savings, we have an open roster spot, and Clingan will be in the starting lineup.

Yeah so we'll have somewhere between 11-17 million cap savings.

I'm not sure the difference matters though. We have room either way to use the full MLE.

Is it possible we don't even use any of the MLE?

I guess if there was a star player trade we could take on more salary, and stay below the cap, while using the full MLE. So that would be the scenario a higher Ayton contract helps.

Sounds like Lakers kind of screwed up trying to get DFS on a cheap deal - Bill Simmons said the Lakers tried to tell teams he had health issues to lower his demand. DFS and his agent got wind and instead got a deal from the Rockets.

If the Ayton deal and other moves don't go well for the Lakers that team could flip to panic mode. Luka can walk in 12 months.

Will be funny to hear all the NBA conspiracy theories with Luka/Dallas/Flagg if he walks from the Lakers for nothing.
