Back from the game -- stunned by Oden

Hey it's just my opinion and I'm definitely not looking for attention. I think it's quite obvious myself, and I've thought this for years.

I personally always thought Bonzi was gay (and had a crush on Sheed) myself. Of our current roster, Oden seems to me unlikely... or, if he is, he had one of the prettiest beards I've ever seen when I saw him at Benihana's back after he got injured.

Nah, I'm calling bullshit on this. Greg had a girlfriend at Ohio St. Some female athlete from another college. Plus his tongue tied response when he met that female rap star tells me he's into the ladies. Remember the pic of him dancing with that hot chick in the pink.. she aint no dude.

I seen your post over on the other thread about the WNBA where you referred to their players as bitches.... kind of makes me question your view of the ladies. Maybe you've been thinking about it too much.

*edited: Please don't use the term 'gay' as a pejorative* . . . trying to guess (or insinuate) that a player is gay. I guess we don't have anything better to talk about?

Last I checked, the team's doing really well and is 14-6 - but that's boring to talk about.

Remember, Dudes. The big guy is coming off of Micro Fracture surgery. It took Zack two years to get his explosiveness back. It took Amare over 18 months to get his back. Darius never got his back. It is a major surgery that takes time to full heal. Plus, remember. The kid played 3/4 of a season of college ball and all of that with a broken thumb. Big men take time. A lot of time. Bynum is in his 3rd year. He is barely coming around. He has gotten better every year. Greg will be okay. He will end up averaging a double double this year. How many other Centers are going to do that? Maybe Dwight, Kaman, and possibly Shaq. Give him some time and quit your whining. This forum is turning into a bunch of over reactionary MIXUM clones.
howzabout we remember what injury he actually had instead? For whatever reason it seems a lot of people have their wires crossed on that injury...

Oden had surgery on his right wrist on June 16, 2006, in Indianapolis to repair a ligament injury that occurred late in his senior high school season. As a result, he sat on the bench during the beginning of the 2006-07 season with Ohio State, during which his team was ranked as high as first before losing to North Carolina

Masbee approves of Greg's game against the Wizards.

Forget the better stats.

Did not anyone else notice a difference in the two games between facial expressions, body language, and movement?

It seems to me in Washington he looked comfortable on the court, his moves were more crisp and deliberate, he moved quicker and ran faster, and he looked like he wanted to be there.

Maybe I am imagining all this, but watching the NY game he looked strange to me, and ended up with poor game stats, in Washington he looked fine to me, normal, if you will, and ended up with good game stats.

The difference was he was aggressive in the Washington game. In the NY game he became passive after he missed his first two dunks. He played extremely passive in NY and couldn't get the ball out of his hands quick enough when the team passed in to him in the post. The Washington game he looked to be more aggressive. It was nice to see. Hopefully he does the same thing tomorrow night in Boston because the only way we win that game is if he has a big game. Boston is great at taking away your number one option (see Kobe in finals).

You're not imagining it. I saw it, too. Oden actually sprinted down the court on one play--which surprised the heck out of me. I didn't know he could run that fast.

He looked smoother and more confident than the night before, but I have no idea why. Perhaps he was intimidated by the Big Apple and performing under the lights in his first game in New York??

Posey not being there anymore is significant. He was their top wing defender allowing Allen and especially Pierce to focus on the other end.

Greg actually laid the foundation stones for the Maddison Square Garden during the time it was built by the Roman Empire - he was just a little bit worried he would break it - since it took him 4 days to do it back then.

It's understandable. It really is.

Good point, but they still play great team defense. Nice part is we have so many weapons. Hopefully GO brings his best game of the year, if so we win, if not we lose. He's the difference maker Boston has no one to match up with him.

I agree. Sometimes he looks like he is close to becoming the player we all hope he will become and on other nights he looks like he has a long way to go. And it is not just being inconsistent (which is expected) . . . it is demeanor and agility that is like night and day from game to game , IMO.

But worst case senario, he is a seviceable big man who clogs the middle and provieds the Blazers with some muscle. Best case . . . Ewing?

Whatever dude . . . not my article.

Bitch all you want. It means nothing. Maybe you can stop hating so much and try to be civil though.

Just because I ripped on your post doesn't mean it is hating. I merely pointed out it is flawed. So I guess now just because I disagree with you it is hating. Oh wait, that is a hating line itself then. Oh my god I am a h8r!:devilwink:

To head this thread off from becoming a trade-off of political diatribes, I've removed two posts (one right-leaning, one left-leaning) that contained extremely radical rhetoric. You may both post those same thoughts on the OT forum, if you wish, but please avoid posting them in a basketball thread. Thanks.

I could care less if you ripped on my post.

This is the hating part:
"So calculate all you want. It means nothing. Maybe it can be the focus of your thesis paper in mathematics though"

It's pointless and stupid (not even my article) So yes you are a hater . . . at least when you respond to my posts.

I think Oden's problem, besides being out for over a year, major surgery, not in game shape, is that he's trying to hard and trying to impress to much. I think he really wanted to look good at MSG and his game suffered for it. I still think he's going to be a great center, it's just going to take a little time which shouldn't surprise anyone. Two of his last three games have been pretty good. Being inconsistent is common to rookies, but he's already improved and will continue to.

Completely agree. He looked great.

Check out the block he had on Young about 44 and 54 seconds into the video.

I think that's the most elevation I've seen Greg get as a Blazer.

I think this quote explains some of this:

"We just want (Oden) to concentrate on the big man's résumé: Be the hardest worker on the floor, set screens, defend the basket, rebound the ball," Portland coach Nate McMillan said. "If he can do that, he doesn't have to worry about dominating wherever he goes."

I think there is a conflict in Oden from doing what Nate is asking and wanting to dominate and show he's worth the #1 pick. It may be when he seems to be laid back he is just trying to find that balance that Nate is asking for.

A quote from Roy:

"How many games has he played, 14?" Blazers guard Brandon Roy said. "People are expecting the world from him, but we don't need that right now. We just need his presence. Eventually, he'll get his confidence."

The Blazers (14-6), first in the Northwest Division entering Thursday, have won six in a row and eight of nine. Oden's presence (1.6 blocks per game) has opened the lane for Roy, leading the team at 21.1 points per game.

"I get into the paint now, and the (opposing) bigs don't help anymore," Roy said. "They have to wrestle with Big G."

Quote from Joel:

"Greg tends to get low after a bad game," Przybilla said. "I tell him, 'Hey, in the NBA, you have so many games. You can always bounce back.' You're not going to play 82 perfect games, even if you're Kobe Bryant."

As Roy said, "What's important is that Big G plays and learns every night. He just needs to play"

Antwan Jamison's view:

"He gets a kick out of defending more than the offensive end," Jamison said. "He's one of those throwback players who loves to block shots and rebound. He has a long way to go, but the potential is definitely there. I didn't know he was that agile."

After checking out the Rookie Rankings the other day, I came across an interesting statement that Shaq made about Oden.....

After Shaquille O'Neal racked up 19 points and 17 rebounds in his first time going head to head with G.O., the Daddy was less than impressed with the kid that looks like the Granddaddy.

"I'm the Shogun," O'Neal said. "And before you get to the Shogun, you gotta go through a lot of ninjas. He has to go through Dwight Howard and Yao Ming, and you know, by that time I'll be outta here."

Shaq aint the Shogun nomore... But that is irrelevant. How long until GO can get to Dwight and Mings level? or do you think he wont reach that platuae??

I thought Greg's last game was pretty damn good in the grand scheme of things, I often saw him running alot faster and with more intensity.

Did you guys notice?

Shaq is still the big daddy. He can still overpower every player in the league and is a commanding force in the postseason. Shaq vs. Oden looked like a rottweiler fighting a toy poodle. Oden has a long way to go to even get to Dwight's level.

I noticed this too. He's going to have to bring his best game for Portland to beat Boston tonight.
