Some talk that maybe Sen Manchin will flip, too.

That would be a big vote for repeal of Obamacare. He's in danger of losing the seat in 2018 as a Democrat.

There's also some talk of McCain flipping. I wouldn't hold my breath on either one.

And a flip wouldn't necessarily mean he changes his vote on Obamacare.

I think if he flips, he votes the way leadership wants. If he wants good committee assignments.

Manchin flipped today for all practical counts.

No way what so ever he gets re elected if he does not. The ship is going down, and he has to get off too. He can claim he waited until the water floated him off, but he's off.

Not sure what you are basing that on.

Nothing's impossible, but I don't know that Manchin is all that close to flipping. Word is that McConnell and the Republicans didn't even attempt to talk him into voting with them, which is actually remarkable. Considering they knew they were on a razor's edge, if Manchin were really so much on the fence that he's seriously considering changing affiliations, he should have been a prime target to at least engage with on casting his vote for Obamacare repeal.

So either he's not really that willing to switch to the Republican side on policy, or McConnell and Republican leadership is incompetent.

Or both.

The story about Manchin has come up a few times in the past several months.

He denies he's interested.

What do you want the republicans to do, force him at gunpoint?

Speaking of guns, now that Obama is gone, gun sales are down 20%.

Democrats fear Russia probe blowback
'We need to talk about what people think about when they wake up in the morning, and it’s not Russia,' said one strategist.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Democrats are increasingly conflicted about how forcefully to press the issue of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Fearful of alienating voters who appear more concerned about the economy and health care, Democrats campaigning in districts across the country are de-emphasizing Russia in their rhetoric — and some are warning that a persistent focus on the Russia investigation could backfire.

“In the races where I’m working, I think voters think that Russia is important and that the questions need to get answered,” Bill Burton, a veteran Democratic consultant, said at a political convention this past weekend. “But they’re mostly sick of hearing about it, and they want to hear politicians talk about things that are more directly important in their lives.”

In a state that is critical to the party’s efforts to retake the House, Darry Sragow, a Democratic strategist whose California Target Book handicaps races in California, called Russia a “distraction” and said Democrats “are going to be in deep, deep trouble if they don’t start talking about what voters care about.”

“We need to talk about what people think about when they wake up in the morning, and it’s not Russia,” Sragow said. “The more we talk about stuff that voters don’t truly care about in their daily lives … it confirms that the Democratic Party’s brain has been eaten by the elites in Washington who have been sitting fat and happy for a lot of years while working Americans have lost their jobs and lost confidence in the future.”

Public polling suggests the electorate is deeply suspicious of Trump’s ties to Russia — but also tired of the months-long inquiry into possible collusion between the president’s campaign and Russia. According to a Quinnipiac University Poll released this week, 63 percent of American voters believe Moscow interfered in the 2016 election, and in a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll last month, more than half of voters said it was inappropriate for Donald Trump Jr. to meet with an attorney linked to the Russian government.

But a plurality of voters in the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll said Congress should not seek to impeach Trump. An earlier Harvard-Harris Poll found nearly two-thirds of American voters say investigations into Trump and Russia are hurting the country.

"Trump's shrinking base"

I'm calling fake news on this one - no signs of it shrinking as far as I can see:

Bad signs.

With Justice’s switch, announced Thursday at a rally with President Trump, Republicans now hold 34 of the 50 governorships, tying the record for the most ever for the GOP. Democrats, who at the beginning of the Obama presidency held 28 governorships, have seen their ranks dwindle to just 15. At some point over the past decade, according to the Republican Governors Association, there has been a Republican governor in 46 of the 50 states.

Republican control of the states is even more lopsided when the partisan balance of state legislatures is included in the statistics. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, Republicans now hold the governor’s office and control of the legislature in 25 states. Democrats enjoy total control in just six, with 18 states having split control.

Thanks Obama!

When Donald Trump stopped off in Minnesota the Sunday before the election, it raised eyebrows. No Republican had won the state since Richard Nixon in 1972. But two days later, the outcome was in doubt until late in the night. Hillary Clinton’s 1.5 point margin over Trump was the narrowest victory for her party there since Walter Mondale barely won his home state over Ronald Reagan in 1984.

What had happened to this hyper-blue state? This is a state that was reliably liberal for decades after the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party, the DFL, was created in 1944. A succession of DFLers were sent to Washington, reaching a high point with Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale, both of whom became vice president and then their party’s nominee for president. But the GOP won a statewide upset in 1978, electing two U.S. senators and the governor. And ever since, control of state offices has passed back and forth between the DFL and the GOP.

Last year brought the latest reversal, with the GOP keeping control of the state house and retaking the state senate. More revealing was the closeness of the presidential race. The much-heralded DFL get-out-the-vote operation almost came up short in delivering the state for Hillary Clinton (who had lost there to Bernie Sanders in the primary/caucus season).

Seems like a resounding form of rejection. The next course of action is to call the voters names or something.

If I were a republican, I'd say "keep up the good work, Rasta!"

RNC raises millions more than DNC in July

The Republican National Committee (RNC) expanded its massive fundraising lead over the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in July as the Democrats posted their worst July haul in a decade.

The DNC raised just $3.8 million in July, compared to the $10.2 million raised by the RNC in the same month. While the GOP has no debt, the DNC added slightly to its debt in July, which now sits at $3.4 million.

The Democrats haven't raised that little money in a July since 2007, when the party raised $3.4 million.

dems are toast......but go ahead and beat that dead horse...hopefully soon the republicans will disappear as well.

And 2008 was a total disaster for Democrats. All they did was win the Presidency in a landslide, the House and a supermajority in the Senate.

Oh, but that was with a deeply unpopular Republican President in the White House....

Good luck with that.

And Trump won after 8 years of progressive rule.

Trump.
Trump.
Trump.

Of all people.
