Bayless a goner?

I don't see why Bayless shouldn't just ride the pines for a couple of years as the 3rd string PG, but if Jaynes is right (how often does that happen?) that Bayless mentally can't handle that, then I guess we should ship him out. Of course, he isn't going to be a starter anyplace else either, so if he can't handle the bench he shoulda stayed in school.

I hear ya. I've been troubled by the team's attempt to play him more at the point this summer. Last summer, he excelled as a scoring guard then struggled mightily all season as a backup point. Then he has a mediocre second summer trying to play more as a pure point. Gee, is there a trend?

Many here have said exactly what I believe ... Bayless is a perfect combo guard off the bench. With two primary ball handlers in Roy and possibly Andre Miller, there should be plenty of combinations to play with. I love Rudy, but I don't believe he'll be in the long term plans, so I would rather play him slightly out of position as a 2/3 and give Bayless some of his minutes at SG.

As for why not to get rid of Bayless ... ask yourself, would you be scared to face him as an opponent? I don't want to see him driving the lane on our big guys, getting them into foul trouble. He's exactly the sort of bulldog player that is dreaded defensively. Just wait until he gets the hang of dumping it off in traffic...
Yeah I'm not totally ready to sign off on Bayless yet. People already think I'm crazy on this forum so I will just say it, I would rather trade Rudy and Blake then Bayless. This is because Bayless is a combo guard and can back up Miller and Roy. Rudy + Blake + Outlaw should be able to net someone nice and if a trade includes a backup PF or PF/C we can include Joel in our trade asset collection.

I love Rudy I really do and if I was 100% certain he would be ok with 20 minutes a game for his career or that he could morph into a PG or SF then I wouldn't trade him for virtually anyone. However, the evidence abounds that he is unwilling to be a backup (Hedo-gate and his comments at the time) and will lower his trade value by going to the media about it down the road. I also don't see him ever being a PG or bulking up enough to be a SF.

Joel would be redundant if we got a good PF/C or even just a really good PF as LMA is a PF/C. He has some value as he is a great mid-level C on a reasonable contract, but too expensive to be a 12 minute a game guy. I personally hope Joel only plays 12 or less minutes a game because that means Oden is playing for 36+.

So I don't INSIST on trading Joel/Rudy. They just seem to be logical choices to trade as they actually have a requirement of a trade chip...VALUE!

Call it Channing Frye Syndrome; getting little to no PT while you are playing out your rookie scale deal is a one way ticket to lost millions. Jerryd should want out of here for the sake of his professional career.

Yep, no doubt he should want to go somewhere he could play more. That doesn't mean we have to let him go, however. He's under contract.

Of course, he could also get more minutes by proving he is better than Blake and Rudy. Just saying....

It's an idea. Hope it occurs to him.

If Andre Miller is our PG, wouldn't we still want to get a young PG to take over in 2-3 years? Not necessarily 20 years young, but I'd say under 26.

...trade for Conley, anyone :dunno:
