Bayless trade: Yuck or Yay?

Depends on how good Armon is going to be, how high the pick will be and if it is the last move of the pre-season.

I'm on board with that. We can't really tell yet, but my impression from pre-season was that rather than Armon, it is Wes who will take P-time from JB. If we waited to trade him later in the season when he was playing maybe 10 minutes every other game or every third game what was his trade value then? I understand the idea that he might have had more value in a combo trade, but it doesn't look like we had that option open to us. Working with imperfect info I'm comfortable with this and whether it's a good or bad deal won't be completely clear until the end of the season.

He only showed one consistent skill, which was getting to the line. He didn't finish well, he didn't defend well, he didn't pass well and he certainly didn't shoot well. I also didn't see that much potential for improvement in those areas. It's just my opinion though. Probably every sports fan is guilty of being a homer at some point, I know I have. I don't mean it as an insult.

I think the term homer is used very loosely here. I dont think that Bayless was anywhere near perfect... but on a relatively soft team.. he was one of the few who always brought it. I hope Matthews is ready to carry a bench scoring role because as constructed our bench lacks firepower IMO. I am not counting on Rudy to be insane all year.

I like the deal. Bayless thought he was a better player than he was. We dont need him with Matthews and I like the potential of Armon. Giving them the PT Bayless may have demanded makes us better. You all know Bayless would cause problems if he wasnt getting the minutes he thinks he deserves.

I don't believe in addition by subtraction. I believe in addition by consolidation. I'm not saying we shouldn't have traded Bayless, I'm saying we should have packaged him with something else for a player we could actually use this season.

The protection of this pick is much better than I had thought it was when I voted. I would change my vote from "Yuck" to "Meh".

Bayless is a potential future all-star, and if that happens we got ripped off. If he's an average starter or less, then it's one we can live with.

Which one do you think is a better point guard? Rudy has no handle and Matthews has never been considered a distributor. Bayless may not be a pure point guard, but he CAN pass the ball, and his handle is far superior to either of those players.

I don't know about Bayless being a better back up PG than Mathews.....maybe regardless Bayless wasn't a good PG either. I have a feeling it's a mute point in that Cho has something up his sleeve for a new PG. Mathews and Rudy were going to need lots of minutes and Bayless was going to be lucky to see 8-10 minutes a game. Hell Roy can play 10 minutes a game as PG.
