Bayless both improved a lot more than Telfair, from year 1 to year 2, but was also just a better player in his second year.

My take on this trade is that I'm underwhelmed. I don't think Bayless is a future star, but I think he has the talent to be an above-average starter. I don't view a mid-first round pick to be have that kind of expected value. Further, Portland has proven able to buy such picks for straight cash before, so this seems like little more than a dump to me. Disappointing to me, but we'll see how it all plays out.

Didn't we pick Bayless at #11? I think the value we received is just about right.

My point is that some people reacted similar when that trade went through, before everything was known. It wasn't a comparison of the two players, or a suggestion they are similar.

I don't like this. After Bayless' playoff performance, I was looking forward to him taking his game to the next step this season. I know I said it didn't look like he was fitting in during preseason, but to give up an NBA talent for a protected draft pick . . . . Johnson better be all that.

Bayless was suppose to be part of the package for the Paul. Maybe we trade the pick back in a package for Paul mid-season. :D

Well, I guess we should bust out our Chris Paul voodoo dolls and our David West pinata.

I could see the Telfair comparison, but Alvin Williams?

Alvin was popular. So was Aaron McKie. I recall fans being crushed when we let go of Kelvin Cato as well.

Am I sensing a trend here?

Alvin was quite popular, and some fans were upset.

Yeah, but Alvin wasn't as young as Bayless, didn't have the potential, and never showed quite as much promise. I liked Alvin a lot, but the two aren't really comparable as prospects.

Wow losing Bayless and Pendy in one weekend . . . that is a lot of work ethic and intensity waking out that door.

I remember Alvin being a 6'5" PG that a lot of fans had promise for.

For Pippen? Really? I guess I don't remember that.

They were pissed that we got rid of him, not neccesarily who we got for him. Everybody loved Kato's game, some fans thought he was the next best thing at center.

Bad trade IMO.

Bayless is really talented, and still the best fit next to Brandon on our roster. Nate decided to take the guy with less talent that plays "Nate ball" because that's how Nate played.

I was! I still am! We were 9-1 with Alvin starting, and he went on to be the PG on the only Raptors team that ever did anything. I believe they call him Mr. Raptor now...

Yeah, but both those guys were included in major trades for star players. We just dumped Bayless for a conditional draft pick.

Are we sure we're losing Pendergraph? Even if we waive him, we all know that Oberto is a Blazer for this season MAXIMUM, and Pendergraph was out for the season. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Pendergraph hang around and appear in some Blazer broadcasts. Mike Barrett (I believe) hinted that he might before the Oberto signing, and I don't see why it shouldn't still be true.

I look at it as addition by subtraction. Creates opportunities for players with better skillsets.

We should probably wait to see what the pick actually ends up being before we call it 'shit'.

I hope Pendy stays around. It's just wierd because before this weekend, if you were to ask who the two most intense players were on the team, I think many would say Bayless and Pendy . . . and now they are both off the team.

Not saying the Blazers are destroyed because of this, only commenting on losing two intesity guys back to back.

intensity, IE competitive. We just unloaded the only two guys on the team that have shown to have a mean streak. We were already soft, now we're memory foam soft.

I think Matthews is a pretty high intensity guy too.

And neither were going to play much, so how much value did their intensity add to the team?

In other news, Rich Cho just traded away Greg Oden's best friend on the team.

A player can have a mean streak without squinting his eyes and dancing in the pregame. If I'm worried about toughness, its in our PF. Certainly not the backup combo guard and the 3rd string Center.
