Trade Bazemore being traded to SAC

I just don’t get it. The Kings traded Ariza when they can just waive him next season for 1.8M. Unless they want to package Baze on another trade before the deadline (not sure if that’s possible). It’s not a sexy trade but I think we won this one.

the difference in salaries moved was about 5M more that Sac was taking on. However, more than half of that 5M has already been paid by Portland. So, the Kings probably paid a little over 2M for a pair of 2nd round draft picks, which seems lower than the going rate, AND, they got to force Olshey to take back Swanigan...win-win

Well to add to that, they owe Bazemore and Tolliver nothing this off season so they basically got the picks for free with no cap hit next year.

These are exactly the things JC does. It's not a cover. It's fact. There are too many injuries. It probably would not have mattered a bunch as without the injuries they still would not have won a championship as constructed. Neil Olshey tried to make some moves and they didn't pan out.
The one thing though that seems to get lost is without the injuries to Collins and Hood and Skal and now CJ and If they would have actually gotten Gasol for some time the Blazers quite possibly would have 4-5 maybe even 6 more wins at this point. With 6 more wins they are 24-20. How would you feel right now with that record and Nurk coming back? They would be sitting in a battle for the 6th spot and maybe even the 5th beings some of those wins would be against the Thunder, Rockets, and Mavs. Not only that but at this point of the season they have played more road games than any team in the league.
Neil Olshey and also Stotts do not need a "Cover", but JC likes to make it sound seedy and wants to make the GM sound like he isn't genuine in his responses. He gets clicks that way.

I was with you up to the statement about Olshey being "genuine." The guy has the style of a used car salesman who moonlights as a televangelist after being being trained by Donald Sterling. Yes, the injuries are an issue - but this team would have 6 more wins just by playing the way they did against Houston. Even taking injuries into account, this team is less than the sum of its talent. So yes, Stotts and Olshey are using injuries for cover.

What’s the rush to dump Ariza? Hood will be coming back from the most serious injury, and the only other possible fixture at SF on the roster is a teenager. Ariza still grades out as one of the better defensive wings in the league and has experience on the biggest stage. He’s only under contract for one more season, so if he has a sudden fall from the cliff there’s no long term commitment.

Dame
CJ
Ariza
Collins..maybe Melo
Nurkic

Hood sixth man.

That’s not intriguing to anyone else?
let me get back to you in a couple months.....

Not until Nurk and Hood prove they are the players they were pre-injury and Collins proves he is worth the hype.

Trevor Ariza was drafted in 2004. He is to be congratulated on lasting this long. To give some context, he was drafted 3 picks ahead of Ha Seung-Jin.
Other players from his draft class who have not lasted this long:
Ben Gordon
Josh Childress
Luol Deng
Josh Smith
Viktor Khryapa
Sergei Monya
Tony Allen
Kevin Martin

Congrats to Dwight Howard and Andre Iguodala for lasting along with him!

The point about it was more that JC will make him look bad before he says it and because of that now Neil will look like he is not being Genuinely honest in his response. You calling him a used car salesman just solidifies it all the more.

Don't get me wrong, Canzano has no credibility with me. My default reaction to him attacking somebody is to take the other side. My dislike of Olshey's approach to dealing with the fans doesn't come from the media - I arrived at that all on my own!

Having just sneered at Ariza, I found this, which is a little encouraging:

I think Neil gets Derozen or LMA or Harrison Barnes. Cut costs as much as he can for now and then use Hassan and Ariza contracts later for a good veteran and go with a high quality group next season. This season is a wash. It’s essentially the Warriors season, just get healthy and add some pieces and get back to normal next year.

The only time money/tax/draft picks are the justification for a trade it means management has already failed miserably at assembling a competitive team.

Since we ended last season with a highly competitive team, and management dumped most of the players, and the team is now a cellar dweller, we need new management.

Hopefully before we draft.

I have to give Olshey credit. It takes a silver tongue and a truck load of chutzpah to make a total mess of the team's payroll - and then convince a large chunk of the fan you are the victim of the mis-managed cap situation!

I see politics isn't the only think you lack knowledge of. You do realize that right now we are missing 4 of 5 starters and only had 8 players dressed down? Majority of fans wanted Harkless and Aminu gone and we had no money to be able to sign Curry. The fans also were lauding the acquisition of Bazemore. The hindsight Monday morning quarterbacks are awesome.

Is DeRozen a SF?

This team would still be a dumpster fire if they had Moe, Aminu, Turner and Meyers. It's the fact they're missing Nurk, Hood and Collins that can't be ignored.

My take is that the front office is conceding the season. Baze never was a fit. Tolliver's career is winding down.

They got what they could. Ariza's meh but probably a better fit here than Baze; his contract situation makes him more of an asset than his play. Gabriel's a lottery ticket who could be a beggar's Pascal Siakam but more likely will be playing somewhere overseas in a couple of years.

Figure they'll get whatever they can for Hezonja. Wondering if they'll try to deal Hassan.

Not a total loss of a trade, but seemed to be a cost-cutting measure because they don't see this team going anywhere this season.

I think lost in this is the potential ability to trade Ariza, which is an easier contract to trade than Bazemores was. Tho I think at this point, he'll just be waived after the draft (Bazemore would've just been renounced/released/whatever).

I wonder what they'll do with Whitesides contract, if anything. My gut says they won't, but at the same time it'd be kind of dumb to do nothing about it. Losing him for nothing will only save them $, as I don't think that will help them realistically sign anyone next off-season.

No kidding... Neil’s cult followers believe he can do no wrong

Or, and hear me out on this, it could be that people maybe have a different opinion of what he's done and the causes of the crappy season, and you have a hard time accepting a different opinion, so much so that you made a screen name mocking him because that's something a typical adult does.

No... I’m pretty sure his followers have not disagreed with one move he has made in 7+ years... not one! That’s not just a difference of opinion.

Or ... it could be that his name really is "Neil O. Shyster" ....

well, he had no choice but to make another user name after he was banned awhile back. He seems to have come back much angrier.
