Well. Im officially converted to the “Ben who??” Camp?

i want to see what a healthy cj can do who wants to prove everyone wrong from the summer trade talks.
He might make the allstar game and Dame might not.
That would be crazy!

Don't we already know what CJ can do? Haven't we seen if for going on 8 years now? (I'll not count his rookie season) He can get hot and carry you, he can get cold.....but won't stop shooting, but he can absolutely a ball stopper on offense either way. His defense is not very good although after a couple games, he seems at least more engaged. However, it is still three 6'4" and under guys being required to switch during the Playoffs when coaches specifically scheme for different match ups.

I had arguments with people last season when I said CJ's hot start was simply not sustainable. Adding last season to this season, CJ going bonkers while Dame defers has resulted in an 8-6 record; which is the same number of home games vs road games; which is the same number of losing teams vs winning teams

Portland was 7-5 last season when CJ AND Nurkic both went down. Dame assumed the #1 option again and the Blazers went 11-5 over the next 16 games while missing two starters

it's been OK so far because Dame has been cold from 3. But Portland is simply at it's best when Dame is dealing, not when CJ is dribbling and shooting

remember the chatter about Dame getting more off the ball action? For sure Portland is taking the ball out of his hands. But they ain't creating any offense for him. His assisted FG rate so far is 14%. Last season it was 28%. Last season, Dame averaged 82 touches a game. So far this year, he's averaging 51 touches a game.

I don't care what anybody says, Portland will not be the best team they can be by taking Dame out of the offense. It's a stupid plan, if that's what it is
Those touches numbers don’t mean anything with just 2 games one of which was a blowout Dame didn’t have to play much in.

it's funny how when people see things they have liked in the first 2 games, it becomes predictive of the season. When people see things they don't like, it's
too early to make any judgements

not with a new coach holding him accountable. With Billups defensive style, it looks like cjs defense will be sufficient, if he keeps it kicked up a notch.

Its early though, i know.

Again, playoff basketball is completely different as coaches can dissect your weaknesses. In our case the glaring gap at SF. Unless Little takes a huge leap and becomes an ultra solid borderline all-star, we still har the exact same weaknesses. Billups style is refreshing and last night’s win was glorious. I just dont see how any of this deals with the problems created by LBJ, Michael Porter Jr ir any of the other forwards we will be facing come playoff time.

Nas and Nance.

Nas and Nance.
You think Little and Nance can deal with Porter and LBJ and then switching onto PG's in the pick and roll? That sounds nice, but as usual, people have short memories of how utterly outclassed we've been every postseason for years, even last year with an injury-ravaged Denver team and Dame putting on a performance for the ages, we got the Gentleman's sweep in the first round.

we had a healthy Nas popping and Nance last year?

I’m in the “off the Ben train” camp for now.

I feel like we need to wait 15-20 games before making a decision. Was the Suns game a fluke or do they continue that defensive intensity and offensive flow?

I am willing to temporarily suspend my Dame/CJ cannot win it all belief and our playoff failures of the past. Billups is not Stotts so applying Stotts results to a Billups system is non-sensical.

I still like the idea of Ben but he is increasingly screaming “head case” and if he decided he didn’t want to play here, we see what kind of a drama queen he can be and overall team disruptor.

Ben is who he is. A VERY good defender, a very good passer, and excellent PnR playmaker, and a good post scorer, and he dominates the ball less than CJ in terms of 'fit' with Dame.

He does not shoot it well, and if he did, would be one of the top three players in the entire league.

As for his recent behavior, did anyone see any of this in any prior season? Or was it just when thinks went screwy, his Coach and team big man questioned how far they could go with him, and the Philly media mercilessly threw him under the bus.

So now I believe he is listening to the advice from Klutch to bring this thing to a finality. There is no history of any of this before this off-season.

James Harden, Kawai Leonard, Jimmy Butler, Vince Carter.....there are lots guys who have been been, shall we say, a bit shady in trying to get themselves shipped out of their respective teams. (And these are just the ones we heard about.)

Ben Simmons just isn't as good at it as a lot of these guys. He didn't get the notice for some reason that all he had to do was pretend to have a vague back injury and just be vague to the media.

I've noticed that most of these guys completely rehabilitate their reputation afterward. It's just playing the game.

The media loves the game because it generates clicks and views, so of course they push the narrative as much as they can. But I think he'll be just fine on his new team.

CJ and Simmons certainly are diametrically opposed.

Goldsberry stresses Simmons absurd lack of jumpers, but look at how many layups he's made!

that chart really needs to be adjusted for shots taken. For instance, in that time frame, CJ has taken 4988 shots; Simmons has taken 3188. Cj shot 1,800 more times than Simmons and that will seriously skew that shot chart

CJ's on a tear and it's awesome to see. If the Blazers can be a top 10 defensive team then one can make the argument that we shouldn't move CJ for Simmons. Regardless of what CJ does, it's about what the team can do with him as the starting two guard.

We have a lot of overlap. The conversation used to be about already having Norm. But I think Simons has changed the conversation. If he can do just 70% of what CJ gives you and you're getting back a healthy (mentally and physically) Ben Simmons, then this is a no brainer. No reason to rush right now but imagine if our starting forwards were Ben Simmons and Roco or Nassir Little.

WOW.

.

pretty sure the Blazers have 6 years of established evidence of what they can be with CJ as the starting 2-guard. I guess the 7th time's the charm

Were any of those guys dealing with Morey as GM? No. I think that is a MASSIVE part of the equation. Morey is S-Tier stubborn and that is a huge factor here. Simmons thought he could play nice and Morey would be reasonable. He was wrong. Simmons “headcase” issues are 100% related to this past summer. Having family too influential and coach ability is a reasonable concern due to past information. The headcase stuff is clearly a negotiation tactic pure and simple.

If the experts running the team, GM/Coaches/Dame think adding a defensive 6'10" stalwart? improves the team by trading CJ, maybe its possible. At this point I wouldn't add another player.
