And you seriously believe that there are no other impact players who are available or will be by the trade deadline? That seems inconsistent with what happens nearly every year in the NBA with major trades starting in late December. Also, I'm not sure that Dame is all-in on trading CJ; they're pretty good buddies.

Its all sourced to one bay area GSW guy back when GSW was in heavy talks with the Sixers. I will let others debunk it more deeply. Im not aware of any star level players that fit our needs , that are available other than Simmons. If you are please share.

The backcourt is not as depressing to me as having a 6'3 guy as your primary wing defender against the likes of George/Kawhi/Lebron/Luka/etc. Powell struggled with Porter Jr. What's he going to do with more skilled wings? Trading CJ for a DPOY wing/big seems like an obvious move.

i don't want to speculate on all that in the past. What is in front of us now is Simmons, and multiple people remain unconvinced that we would give up CJ for Ben.

There were obvious caveats involved with PG. The talk about George was that he was bound to LA in his free agency, and him sticking around in OKC was a huge surprise to everyone. There was NOTHING about CJ for Kawhi or Butler at al-- think you're making these up in your head and have talked about it so many times, you believe it to be real. I remain convinced Harden only wanted to go to BK or Philly and used Portland only as a leverage play.

Regardless, we did get some hints that he would trade CJ this summer (from Quick) and from himself if you read through the lines in his interviews. However, the recent rumors suggest otherwise.

what caveats with Paul George? that there was risk? sure there was risk, but risk-adverse is Olshey's M.O. and is a template for mediocrity...and that's where Portland is. If PG13 would re-sign in OKC to play with Westbrook, he could easily have done the same to play with Dame.

as for Butler and Kawhi...they were being shopped for sure. Neither trade happened suddenly. So, if "we" heard nothing about CJ being offered for them it could be because he was never offered. I mean, do you think Portland should have been interested in Butler or Kawhi? And Harden said Portland was an acceptable destination. You think he was using Portland for leverage...really? then you must know what package Portland was offering for Harden to use as leverage...care to share?

as for Olshey's off-season double-speak being hints he would trade CJ...LOL...c'mon man. On one hand you condescendingly tell me I'm making stuff up in my head from tea leaves I'm reading....then immediately turn around and read your own tea leaves

I believe one thing Olshey said and that's that he believes the roster wasn't the problem last season. Every thing he has done since the Denver series dovetails perfectly with somebody determined to prove the roster wasn't the problem

We’re all pretty much operating on the same level of pre-season internet blather rumors. We have zero information that Morey is willing to trade Simmons for CJ, but you and a lot of other folks around here are ready to string up Olshey for not getting the deal done. I don’t know who is available any more than you do. If I had my druthers I would prefer moving CJ for a dominant SF. Siakam would be a guy I would love to get, but he’s likely only going to be available if things go badly for the Raptors. We won’t know that until a couple of months into the season.

I have maintained Harden was using us as leverage from the moment that rumor came out-- look through those Harden threads here if you wish. Why would Houston want CJ in the first place? The only teams he truly wanted to go to were BK and Philly. It's not just me reading tea leaves. Every NBA reporter worth a damn said as much.

Speculating that Olshey wouldn't trade CJ for Kawhi is about as ridiculous as saying Olshey wouldn't trade CJ for Lebron/KD. We've been tuned in to every rumor/noise in the past few years and there is absolutely nothing to suggest CJ was ever discussed for those guys from either side.

With Simmons/George we have multiple sources linking us to them at least.

I don't know but I really like it because we can't trade Nance or Powell so that would mean some sort of three team deal with CJ and Nurk which would have to net us Simmons plus more. Give me a starting lineup of Dame, Norm, RoCo, Nance and Simmons with a bench bolstered by whatever else we get back with Simmons. That would be fantastic.

POR wanted Simmons for anyone on their roster not named Lillard or RoCo. Everyone else and their assets are fair game. Obviously, that was not appealing. PHI wanted to talk only about Lillard which POR had no interest in moving unless they can get Embiid. These two are miles apart. Don't think if Lillard asked out that PHI has a chance because they don't. They are rubbing each other the wrong way. POR is still interested in Simmons but NOT for Lillard.

if you guys want to say I'm biased against Olshey and that bias might make me not give Olshey any benefit of the doubt...that's fine. For instance, I do not believe the rumor, at all, that Olshey was willing to offer CJ for Simmons, but not RoCo. But I didn't arrive at this bias blindly or under delusion. I specifically remembered that Olshey reportedly held CJ untouchable for Butler because it was only a few months after reports that Olshey held CJ untouchable in the PG13 talks

I can't specifically recall anything about Kawhi, but if Olshey was not willing to trade CJ for Paul George or Butler, it's pretty logical to assume he wouldn't have for Kawhi either. He may not even have made any offers, but considering Kawhi was traded for Derozan and Poeltl, I'd think the Blazers could have at least made a competitive offer if CJ was included.

IMO, as long as Olshey is GM, CJ will be a Blazer. I don't think you can say the same thing about Olshey and Dame. I'd love Olshey to prove me wrong and complete a CJ for Simmons deal

Keep in mind that we are only aware of Simmons because he wanted the world to know he was PO'ed at his team. Who's to say a star level player can't handle it the way Nance did and keep it out of the press? What if a team that thinks it is a contender gets off to a slow start and changes their mind about trading?

Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine. People defend GMs by asking "what trade would you have made?" That is BS. The GM is handsomely paid to know what players are available while the fans can only guess.

If Neil is really resistant towards bringing in Simmons (which I think would be idiotic), it might be worth engaging Indy in a potential three-way with Sabonis landing in POR. Or Toronto with Siakam. I know everyone wants Draymond, but prefer Sabonis/Siakam over Green.

It seems the resistance is around protecting his illegitimate son, one CJ McCollum. I'm really hoping Olshey Cucked CJ's supposed father and that's what's going on here. I can't bring myself to think this guy actually legitimately believes CJ is worth too much to trade for the likes of Butler, PG-13, Kawhi, and now Simmons. That would mean our franchise is run by a delusional madman with no grasp whatsoever on player evaluation.

I re-listened to that Windy pod, and went back to what Fentress reported earlier... I don't think this is as much to do with Neil not wanting to trade CJ as much as it is the fit with Simmons. Recall, Fentress said people within the Blazers org see Ben as a guy who wants to be a PG primarily and Dame is best utilized on the ball as well (I 100% disagree with this notion) but it has at least some merit.

Combine this with my guess about the rumor of the small market team with interest in Simmons being Indy, I think a three way with the Pacers makes a ton of sense. A Harris-Sabonis-Embiid front court is a bit crowded while Sabonis would be a great fit here either with or without Nurk. I'm more intrigued by Simmons' raw talent on the defensive side but I think it could work.
