I just dont see putting the greatest player on earth in the hands of a head coach that has never had a winning record. head scratcher for sure, but then again DEN has shown they are brainless.
But then one asks…..is he the best player on earth BECAUSE of WHO his coach is?

Danny is melting down. He acts like a guy who is inconvenienced to talk about the Blazers.

I see it quite the opposite...

He has largely a positive outlook on the future of the Blazers and lets himself get worked up by fans that don't share that same viewpoint (specifically the reasons for it) which is then made worse by a co-host that perpetuates it.

As someone who shares his optimism I get where he's coming from, but I also understand how it comes across. He's got a combative and not so slightly condescending way about him for sure haha

It doesn't make for my style of radio but I'm sure the Danny rants help the ratings.

Haha exactly, dude asked for a source, you gave it to him and it’s legit sources yet he is still rambling on with a big egg on his face.

some posters here it’s not even worth bothering getting into a with their tunnel vision and I am smarter than anyone that disagrees with me mindset.

what was said? I saw a poster saying Denver "came knocking". As a source he cited a tweet that said Denver had "eyed" Billups. That was the sum total of what I read. Then someone provided a link to a blog behind a paywall. I asked what was said in that blog, and crickets

so all I have are those two vague rumors.

on the other side of the coin is the fact that the time between the firing of the coach, the sidelining of the GM, and those tweets was 5 days. The Blazers had 3 games and a road trip in those 5 days. Denver didn't have a GM and was in the playoff positioning battle. And they had an interim coach that they may or may not be interested in as permanent HC, depending on how the playoffs unfold. Almost always teams will hire the GM first and let the GM conduct a coaching search. So "eyeing" Billups looks like cart before the horse

without knowing what Stein and his buddy said, this looked a lot like speculation based upon Billups having been born in Denver, played HS and college ball there, and two seasons with the Nuggets. But maybe it wasn't

but sure, since you felt the need to attack me, please provide the dialog in that blog you're saying I'm ignoring, but actually can't see because of the paywall. You provide it please, nobody else, so I can know you're not just bullshitting again

In case anyone hasn't checked, Billups is presently 94 games under .500 on his coaching career. Like, he would have to average 57 wins per year to get to .500 before his current contract runs out. Anyone see that happening?
I don't know what that has to do with anything given what our team's situation has been since he's been here.

Seriously it's like you're a non Blazers fan who knows nothing about what's been going on with our team when you post something like this. The team tried and succeeded in losing the huge majority of their games in the second half of his first three seasons. We're currently going through a rebuild. Da fuk is a coach supposed to do to have a good record when his team is tanking and then trying to learn how to win with one of the youngest rosters in the league?

I still don't love Chauncey's in game execution but it's hard for me to define where it's his execution as a coach that is lacking or our players executing a sound strategy. I haven't loved how he's doled out playing time either but I again have a hard time knowing if there was some mandate from above for him to play Ant way too much and the same for Jerami.

I do not know if Chauncey is one of those coaches that can sustain getting more out of his rosters than the sum of its parts but I do know that he did that for some pretty impressive stretches this season.

But yeah him being 94 games under .500 is totally on him and we should all laugh at him or boo him when we're at games or some shit like that.

Crickets? They posted an excerpt from the article that said "Per Stein and Fischer, Billups was "poised to emerge as a candidate" for both Phoenix and Denver. There was also a "presumption in league coaching circles" that he would have interest in the Nuggets' vacancy if he became a free agent."

You said "Still not buying it" Stomp, sorry, STOMP posted a link to a BR article with the same info, and crickets. I asked why you'd want a source if you'd be so dismisive of it, and you then continued on your rants about the timeline of when people were fired etc. Instead of seeing the more accurate information, you ran, and continue to, with the slight misspeaking of "came knocking", and refused to actually read what anyone else said. Ignore the came knocking part, and read what everyone else corrected you on. Or don't, I guess.

Is Zach Bachar not a credible source? Quick google looks like he works for BleacherReport.

It’s just semantics and some love to argue the minutia of it, though agreed, I could have clearer words. The point was and is, other teams have shown interest in him, counter to what some have been saying.

I missed those...sorry

and I was only dismissive of what I saw, not what I didn't see.

When that Lamar Hurd Chauncey interview dropped, I thought it was a hint that he was gunna stay for the last year of his contract but I never expected he was gunna be extended

Part of what annoys the shit outa me about the Conductor are his comments about him team meeting telling players that it didn’t matter about anything else, if they didn’t play defense they would play. Now, on the surface, I love that. However, the only one he followed through with that threat was Sharpe. Simons continued to be a shitty defender, and his minutes increased.

we're increasing his (simons) trade value

You can't bench a player that is shitty at defense no matter how hard they try when you need offense.

Simons tried harder to his credit. So did Shae after the benching. I'd say it worked.

how can you tell? did his face look more determined this season? The results sure weren't different

Eyeballs. Pretty much everyone has acknowledged this and this is coming from an Ant hater. You're saying there was no difference between this season and last defensively?

He’s basically been given shit rosters and said “here let’s suck”

Popovich would most likely been just as bad. But that’s the job when you’re playing for lottery balls.

Hot Take: Billups could've coached last year's Celtics to the championship. He would've led this year's Thunder to best record also.

I’m ambivalent toward Billups. I’ve been in the mindset a couple years now.

first off...no, I disagree, "pretty much everyone" has not acknowledged it. I think a lot of people have judged Ant's defense this season as being as poor as it's been in previous seasons. That's a big reason why Chauncey benching Sharpe for bad defense brought so much criticism

* Simons began starting in 2021-22. That season he was dead last on the team in defensive rating at 4.1 points worse than the team's defensive rating. He was also last among Blazer rotation players in DBPM

* in 2022-23, Simons was dead last in def rating among rotation players with a mark 4.2 points worse than the team. And he was last among rotation players in DBPM

* in 2023-24, Simons was dead last among rotation players with a def rating 3.5 points worse than the team. And also dead last in DBPM

* this season, Simons was again dead last among rotation players in def rating with a mark 4.3 worse than the team. In other words, relative to the team's def rating, this season was the worst defensive performance of his starting career. And again, his DBPM was worst on the team

now granted, defensive metrics can be noisy. They can skew one way or the other depending on rotations. That's not so much the case with starters though. But when you have a 4 season, 235 game sample consistently showing the same thing, over and over, it's pretty persuasive.

that's why I asked how anybody could tell that Simons was trying harder on defense. Certainly can't tell by results.
