Doesn't half the stadium boo Billups in the intros?
They also cheer when the team wins.

Not sure i agree with that? I think Jody/Bert, Joe and Chauncey want to build a contender. I don't know exactly how they could have done better other than tank better which I believe Chauncey has a very hard time doing. And this organization doesn't care to do better than those 20
Understood. But this ownership doesn't seem keen on doing anything to actually win.for the folks here: two years is not a commitment. Coaches get fired with two years left on their deals all the time.
And this organization doesn't care to do better than those 20
Regardless of sport, making decisions trying to appease fickle fans is about the dumbest way to run a franchise.
STOMP
I agree with this. Kind of seems like they are going to see what Billups does next year and they will make a decision.for the folks here: two years is not a commitment. Coaches get fired with two years left on their deals all the time.
don’t think Chauncey is good at X and Os, but it seems like that Bjorkgrens job right now anyways
just some recent history:
in 2019, after a 53 win season and a trip to the WCF, the Blazers gave extensions to Olshey and Stotts. Two years later they were both gone
My guess is Chauncey has a short leash for next year. Like, if they started off next year like they did this year, he'll be cut.
What the fuck are you talking about?ROFL I LOVE haters being disappointed. Y’all ate your crow with scoot, ate your crow with Cronin, and will have your next course soon.
the funny thing is y’all still so mad about losing Dame, you’ll hold our franchise in a crippled state like forever rather than just let it go
that's possible
it may even be possible there is a team option for those extra 2 years after next season. Not likely though
He’s a shit Xs and Os guyI like Chauncey. I think his philosophies are really sound (supposedly a lot of player movement, penetrate and kick on offense and high pressure switching defense) I wish I saw the things he talks about off the court take place on the court more often.
I think the guy seems like a great motivator. I've felt that his player development has been very solid.
His in game management hasn't been impressive so hopefully he can work on that.
All of that said, why not just pick up that option for next season??? Why not see what happens when you ask that he get the team winning more games than they lose, which should be the expectation for next season? I get that lame duck seasons for coaches can be problematic but why not see what you get when you tell Chauncey to win from game one to the last game we qualify to play.
I'm glad Chauncey and Joe are on the same page and I really hope what they're looking to do will make some sense.
I’m not mad at the two years actually. They could fire him year two and not really bat an eye. This really gives him next season.
What the fuck are you talking about?
Whoa! They basically picked up his option and added two seasons. It's not a 5 year deal or anything. You can easily fire a coach with two remaining seasons, teams do it all of the time. As other posters have pointed out lame duck season's for head coaches are a nightmare for any team. So I would get freaking out if it was an actual long term deal but it's not.WTF -- This Blazers team in it's ownership group is a fucking joke
As much as i dislike Cronin i can see why they would extend him but why in the blue hell would Billups get an extension ?
WHY was this needed just pick up his fucking option and see IF maybe Billups turned the corner then after the offseason and ( hopefully ) a lot of roster moves he shows this season was just a stepping stone but why now. This is why Jody needs to sell the team OR fire Bert cause something in that ownership thing stinks just not sure who but I suspect Bert is the mastermind but Jody just have blame for allowing it unless PA made it clear he could not be fired unless he was deserved ( scandel etc )
Weird, right?he seems to have a lot of 'I-have-a-grudge' posts
I named the philosophies and said they were rarely being executed. Again, a movement offense is what he says... we see way too many possessions with zero off the ball movement in any meaningful ways. He likes plays, both isos and P&R that allow a playmaker to get into the teeth of the defense and either score or find the open guy to kick to... we see this but it puts a lot of onus on young players decision making skills, which can be and has been problematic. He’s a shit Xs and Os guy
He insisted on starting Ayton, Grant and Ant even though it hindered the team
He has a poorer defenses than Stotts
what philosophies?
Obviously Chauncey is loved by ownership, staff and the players. That's what Malone didn't have...unconditional trust. Success is a team sport. Chauncey gets that.
I think Ant is gone... I think he was gone at the deadline and some asshole who was the the best friend of our late owner shut down the move. So I think he'll get moved before the draft. I think Jerami can and should be moved but I've been stung too many times on that one to count on it. Deandre seems like he'd be easiest to move around the deadline with his expiring contract but who knows maybe Joe pulls that off this summer too.My point is this was not needed cause I doubt teams were beating down the Blazers door with requests to talk to him about a job so just pick up option and move on and hope for the best. Your right unless he got a huge pay raise it is just doting I's and crossing T's but still his record did not deserve this but I will say the following. Doing this HAS to mean the following things and if it does not then I stand by my post a couple minutes ago. --- ( post was my emotional reaction but I still believe it )
1) The ownership group is willing to spend some money within reason
2) Cronin will have his hands untied more cause I do think he has had his hands tied to a degree in some of the deals via things he had to get done like shedding money , selling second round picks for cash etc.
3) Maybe bringing in one or two new coaches that can cover up for Billups flaws as a coach
This put more pressure on Cronin for this offseason cause there is no way in hell we can run it back or just lose like Reath . Banton and Walker or something and just see how things go. I will not make this into a offseason thing but I will try and hope and maybe that is what I am doing but hoping this means we will see a lot of changes incoming this summer but we shall see.
since next season was a team option I'd say he just got a 3 year extension.I think Ant is gone... I think he was gone at the deadline and some asshole who was the the best friend of our late owner shut down the move. So I think he'll get moved before the draft. I think Jerami can and should be moved but I've been stung too many times on that one to count on it. Deandre seems like he'd be easiest to move around the deadline with his expiring contract but who knows maybe Joe pulls that off this summer too.
Chauncey's deal, especially if it only included a modest pay raise is pretty much the minimum you can do if you decide you want to retain a coach. Can't have a lame duck. It's hardly a ringing endorsement or anything like that. Billups Gets a Two Year Extension is how the headlines should have read... multi year contract is just as true but no where close to as specifically accurate.
