Is anyone else surprised that idiot who was the genius behind the press conference "exposing" Elizabeth Warrens "lover" hasn't realized he's missing out on more opportunities to make a complete fool of himself again?

I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled. The words “Equal Justice Under Law” are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand—one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers. The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values—our values as people and our values as a nation.

When I joined the military, some 50 years ago, I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Never did I dream that troops taking that same oath would be ordered under any circumstance to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens—much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.

We must reject any thinking of our cities as a “battlespace” that our uniformed military is called upon to “dominate.” At home, we should use our military only when requested to do so, on very rare occasions, by state governors. Militarizing our response, as we witnessed in Washington, D.C., sets up a conflict—a false conflict—between the military and civilian society. It erodes the moral ground that ensures a trusted bond between men and women in uniform and the society they are sworn to protect, and of which they themselves are a part. Keeping public order rests with civilian state and local leaders who best understand their communities and are answerable to them.

So, they will have less training and shittier cops? That ought to work great!

How is defunding gonna help anything? Means putting more out of work, less protection on the streets, longer wait times, more violence, more death, less justice.

I don't care what they say, you aren't supposed to put your knee on somebody's head. It happens because it works, but that's not SOP, Can't be. In the military we were trained to put a knee into their upper shoulder blade.....it pins them down.

If he was trained to do it, even if he deploys it negligently, its a legal escape. They can question when was the last time he received supplemental training.

The way a Minneapolis police officer restrained George Floyd before he died — placing his knee on Floyd's neck while the man lay on his stomach — is widely discredited by law enforcement experts because it can cause suffocation.

But the technique is allowed in Minneapolis.

Floyd gasped for air and called for help, but officer Derek Chauvin calmly kept his position for at least eight minutes, including after Floyd stopped speaking or moving. Other officers stood by as bystanders berated them and pleaded for them to check for a pulse.

that doesn't seem to make good policy

however, just about every government is facing massive budget shortfalls right now. I'd need to gauge the cuts to LAPD vs the inevitable cuts across the board. There's simply not enough context to that tweet

I just looked it up and the LAPD budget is about 1.9 billion annually. If that 250M was cut all in one budget cycle (year), that would be a 13% cut. However, projected cuts are often over multiple years, so maybe it's smaller than a 13% cut

but again, the critical context is how much is projected to be cut out of LA's overall budget.
 
They are redistributing it to social programs. I guess its 250 mil total, and 150 from LAPD.

He's funneling this money somewhere. It was weird last month Qatar donated $5million to "The Mayors Fund". There's more than meets the eye

“Probably 99.99 percent,” Odom said in response.

Under previous New York law, prosecutors would determine whether to make a bail recommendation or agree to have the defendant released on their own recognizance. The case judge would then make a determination. Defense attorneys would typically make arguments that bail would be inappropriate, or should be set at a low amount, which judges would take into consideration.

Under the new law, courts are now prohibited from setting any monetary bail or keeping defendants in custody before trial in almost every type of misdemeanor case, and for a long list of felonies as well. (CONTINUED..)

Depends on what they're defunding with the police. If they're defunding training programs, that's obviously silly. If they're defunding the purchase of military surplus vehicles and weapons, that's addition by subtraction.

Was gonna say that as well. Maybe that 150 million comes out of the purchase of tanks and military style gear. That's a good thing. Police shouldn't have that shit.
 
Trump knew little about General Mattis (he knows little about anything) but liked the Mad Dog nickname. He thought wrongly Mattis was like him.
