And that's the thing. I'm white, but I'm mostly Irish and 1/8 native American. I've been raised and have had many discussions with people that explain stories of my relatives being treated like shit. but when someone sees me now and we have this discussion, they shame the shit out of me for not knowing what this feels like. I agree, myday to day life is unaffected by racial things, but it doesn't mean it hasn't affected my family
That's the part that I don't understand. I was raised to be proud of my heritage, but it had nothing to do with being white. My grandfather is 100% Norwegian. I was raised to be proud of that. My dad has a bunch of different ties, with some French, English, Irish, and German. I think it's cool to look into your family tree and find out about your roots. I think it's totally fine to be proud of your ancestry. What I can't really fathom is being proud of being white, or black for that matter. It's just a physical feature. You being white doesn't reflect on your Native American heritage. People just assume because you're white that you fit into that one category. It's silly.
